We recently connected with Anthony Robinson and have shared our conversation below.
Anthony , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I grew up as non-social kid, I kept my distance from all the other kids and spent hours upon hours just learning instruments. My dad bought a guitar in the early 2000s and eventually as he lost interest in learning how to play, it became my guitar. It was not a great guitar, however it ignited a passion for music in me that would change my life.
A lot of people seem to believe that you need hours a day to learn a skill, but that old saying “work smarter, not harder” is really the key phrase here. People, especially in music, tend to practice what they’re comfortable with over and over again, and expect progress on things that they’re not comfortable with. While practicing what you know is important, in order to take steps toward improvement, you have to do things you’re not comfortable with, you’ll improve more practicing 15 minutes of a skill you’re not comfortable with, than 3 hours of a skill you’re good at. Apply this to any skill, and you’ll have a much easier time.
As a creative, learning your craft is easier than ever with as much resources we have now compared to back in the day. Nowadays if you have a phone and access to the internet, there is no limit to what you can learn. A lot of the skills that I use daily were learned from free resources (i.e youtube, articles, etc,). I use the internet now to supplement my knowledge. It’s a great resource for those just starting out to those who have years of experience.
I tend to do a lot planning and thinking about things I want to learn, which is good, however, when it comes to execution, I often think so much that I forget to do. This is a shortcoming that I am getting better at overcoming everyday. The more I get better at just doing, the more I see improvement in whatever field I’m working in.
Anthony , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Anthony, however, I’m professionally known as LoogieTanuki. I’m a music composer and content creator. I’ve done work for some of the biggest creators on Youtube. I do thumbnail work, video editing, sound design, along with many more things.
I pride myself on creating a product that is exactly what my clients visualize and more. I work and communicate with clients to expand on their ideas and create something that truly invokes emotion.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The easiest way to build a genuine audience is honestly to make the type of content that you would watch/click on. My two most viral videos are videos that were born from me saying to myself “Wow, I wish there was a video that I could watch on this.” Make the type of content you’d want to see. This applies to all social media.
The two most important metrics on any social platform is your viewer retention (how long someone watches your video for) and clickablity (how easily you can get your audience hooked into your content).
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is and always has been to help support my parents as they get older, so being able to support them and still do what I love really is a dream come true, and I’m always working towards that.
