Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cay Colombo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I was a kid, my mom pioneered a ministry called Made With Love. The ministry was created to show compassion to the families in the community for various reasons- illness, hospitalization, loss- by making a homemade meal & bringing it to them with a card of encouragement & love.
20 years later, the mustard seed my mom’s ministry planted in my heart has driven its roots deep into my soul as the Holy Spirit has intricately weaved together the various threads of my talents, passions, abilities, giftings, & experiences into this incredible endeavor we call Chubby Noon’s Kitchen. As the years pass, what was once a dream is becoming physical reality before our eyes and it is absolutely pure joy to have found a way to love my God & love His people in a way that I enjoy on so many levels.
When the generosity prayer was introduced at our church, it was truly life-changing for us. It was instrumental in the work the Lord was doing in our hearts- “Help us to increase in generosity until it can be said that there is no needy person among us” was a concept that took hold. What does “no needy person among us” even look like in today’s economy? What would it look like if we- as individual members of the body of Christ- started meeting the physical needs of the brothers & sisters around us with the example of the early church at the forefront of our efforts?
CNK Ministry has allowed us to take the little resources (credit cards count as resources, right? Asking for a friend…) we have and pour our time, talent, and ability into them to create meals that bless others in an eternally impactful way. This is our attempt to live out the parable of the faithful servants and take the few talents we’re entrusted with while the Master is away and multiply them into abundant blessings for His people and glory for His name. We strive to make every bite a soul-soothing experience that stirs affection and joy in the heart to the glory of King Jesus- after all, we exist by Him, through Him, and for Him.
Most recently, we registered CNK Ministry Inc. with the State and are awaiting a determination from the IRS regarding our application request for 501c3 exempt status. Forming a non-profit counterpart for Chubby Noon’s Kitchen’s charitable operations expands the available options for funding and support, while maintaining the LLC allows us to continue taking custom-paid orders or selling surplus food items while complying with local laws and regulations.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Like the folks that run it, Chubby Noon’s Kitchen exists primarily for the glory of King Jesus & the benefit of His people.
CNK is a micro kitchen meal ministry located in Corinth, TX, that focuses on generously blessing those within the church body and those in need in the surrounding community. Two independent halves comprise our operations: Chubby Noon’s Kitchen (LLC) offers a variety of handmade-from-scratch food & treats for sale as well as fulfilling custom order requests, and CNK Ministry (Inc) is responsible for the curation and distribution of the Chub Special, a handmade-from-scratch meal- soup, bread, and assorted baked sweets- 100% free of cost for both the giver and the recipient.
We invite you to order a Chub Special for someone who could be blessed by a meal, whether for celebration, lament, or just because- then pick it up and deliver it to them. There are no tricks or strings attached; we’re just fueled by a mission to love others because we love the Lord and earnestly desire to show the world the Beauty in the Way,
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Chubby Noon’s Kitchen has thus far been funded by personal means and occasional donations from a few generous folks.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth, for sure. Included with every Chub Special is a card with a QR code to send a meal to someone else. It starts a beautiful chain reaction.
