We recently connected with Erica Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Erica, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The idea of Beautifully Blended came so naturally to me because it was a very relatable topic for myself growing up and I knew other children including my daughter would also resignate with it as well. Empowering my daughter and showing her that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, hard work truly pays off. Beautifully Blended is my debut children’s book, dedicated to young children from diverse backgrounds. Building confidence in children and letting them know that being “different” is a beautiful thing. To embrace our uniqueness’s.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have always had a passion for writing and embracing my creative nature. I remember times as a young child I would write my own short story’s and imagine what the illustrations would be. I always dibble and dabbled with a variety of writing. Poems, short stories, etc. My writing comes from my own personal experiences, growth, grief, happiness, and strengths. I feel what I have published this far are books that are relatable. If I can help someone, motivate them, encourage them, push them to be better I’m all about that. Then I feel like I’ve done my job. My proudest moment was the moment I held my published author copy of my first book. But before that I would say the moment for me was when my manuscript was approved by my publisher and they loved my story. Then I knew, I was really onto something. I could really do this!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I feel with writing there is not a right or wrong way. Some people may love it while others despises it, and that’s okay. You will have some that will nitpick every detail, not like your writing style, and dislike your storytelling. But then you have people that will gravitate towards your differences and like your style. Those people will find you.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
There is so much to learn. I’m still learning. As of right now I am leaning towards the “Indie Author” way, self publishing, editing, I have full creativity control. With so many resources especially social media you have to take advantage of the resources that are out there and do your homework. Follow other people that are doing the same things you’re doing or wanting to do. That’s where your inspiration of fuel will keep you going. For myself personally I study TikTok, Instagram, Facebook. I utilize Canva, I publish on Amazon KDP. Which has saved me tons of money. I feel when my time comes everything always falls into place. Whether that’s meeting the right person at the right time or stumbling upon a new idea or process that I have not thought of before.
