We were lucky to catch up with Delaina Baker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Delaina, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
After owning a social media marketing agency for almost 10 years, I noticed that along with helping service based business clients, the questions I received the most were from female executives learning that social media was now a non-negotiable. The struggle with overwhelm and not feeling the confidence to turn on the camera and hit “post” was continually holding them back.
They felt a lot of “What will people think?” “Did I do it right?” “I feel like I sound dumb.” and many more limiting beliefs that I had learned myself to overcome.
I stepped up and helped them smash those confidence crushers that were holding them back from not only showing up on social media but also help them understand that by not showing up, they were leaving money on the table and someone else was snagging their dream clients.
Staying on this journey with them, I realized that I was a part of their story and they were instantly a part of mine. I was helping women grow their business and their revenue by helping them see that their expertise NEEDS to be heard. I couldn’t ask for more…it’s the true definition of #womensupportingwomen.
And THAT’S how HerSocial Signature started.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Social Media marketing was never the goal…but the shoe fit, so I laced up.
My journey in social media marketing started during the very early days of social media. Back when Instagram was just filtered moments and Facebook business pages weren’t even a thing.
What started as copywriting position with a marketing and branding agency, naturally evolved into social media management. And after two years, the local community got wind of my growing expertise and wanted to add on this service to their marketing plan. With local businesses starting to reach out and me taking on more side gigs, that extra work started to become more of a full-time position that was making more than my agency role.
The pull to help these businesses and take on more personal accounts weighed heavily on me because I truly loved the agency I was with. But, in a beautiful moment of female leadership support, the agency owner – who was also a good friend – encouraged me to venture out on my own, despite knowing she’d need to find new help.
Today, while social media remains a cornerstone of what we do, I’ve expanded our services into email marketing because not only is it a passion of mine, it helps complete the marketing flywheel each client needs to succeed.
We also collaborate frequently with PR firms, either directly or through our clients, creating powerful combined strategies that produce outstanding results.
As for what drives me? Being part of another woman’s success story. Seeing businesses move the needle because of our strategic support – that’s what leaves me energized and ready for more each day.
Have you ever had to pivot?
This one’s interesting…at least to me. LOL
2022 brought an eye-opening but pivotal moment in my business journey. Like quite a lot of entrepreneurs, I hit that critical point where success was actually leading to burnout. The constant creative demands were taking their toll on my mental and physical health, and I knew something needed to change.
Through some powerful coaching sessions and some realizations with the way social media was being used for business, I made the difficult but necessary decision to pivot. This shift meant returning to one of my core passions: helping others succeed with social media through consulting and training.
What blew my mind was that this transition led to something I 100% didn’t expect. When I began showing up authentically on social media again, LinkedIn specifically, other women executives and business owners started reaching out…they were wanting to achieve the same kind of authentic visibility for their own businesses.
Fast forward to today, we help female business owners and leaders find their voice and presence on social media. Whether we’re teaching them to create consistent content or handling it for them, our mission is clear: help women increase their revenue and establish themselves as leading experts in their field.
Sometimes the best pivots happen when you return to what you love most.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I’ll start by saying, this isn’t the norm.
I honestly built my business by playing golf. My husband first helped me pick up clubs in 2011 and I never looked back. I fell in love with game, more so than most women, (I keep up with the PGA like most women keep up with Bravo.)
I knew that men were “making deals” on the golf course and I wanted a piece of that pie.
So, I joined a social league, took lessons (cuz a husband should never teach his wife and I’ll leave it at that) and I requested to be paired with people I didn’t know.
When I told my golf partners what I specialized in, word got around, and my networking got easier and easier. And so did my golf swing.
