We were lucky to catch up with Melanie Sudduth recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Melanie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is the result of intentional effort. While everyone’s path is unique, there are key principles that can guide you toward achieving your version of success. Many of us face that little voice in our head that says, “You’re not good enough” or “You don’t belong here.” This is imposter syndrome, and it can be one of the biggest roadblocks to success. To overcome it, you should acknowledge it and take action anyway! Success also requires clarity of vision. Dream big, but create a roadmap to turn those dreams into reality. Furthermore, to achieve success, you must be willing to invest—whether it’s time, money, or both.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Melanie Sudduth, and as the owner of MPowering Legacy Publishing, we guide clients through the self-publishing book process. Our clients own 100% of their rights and royalties; they have full creative control; and they will be offered competitive and flexible pricing. We also offer other services such as book coaching, book launch plans, editing, formatting, etc.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
So often, women are stuck in the role of being a mother, wife, and/ or underrated employee. We run the hamster wheel of mediocrity with no questions asked. While we enjoy our family or even our job, we live to serve others and seldom stop to ask ourselves what do we want. Those who do stop to ask, and actually have an answer, don’t always know how to get there. I was my own first customer. As a teacher, I became tired of going above and beyond while not having the energy to give to my family once I came home. I felt guilty for not being mentally present with my children, especially my special needs son. I had to figure out what I wanted to do, how it was tied to my purpose and passion, and how I could do it without taking much time away from my kids.
I have worked with many professional women who had a desire to do something more in life. Some wanted to be entrepreneurs, while others wanted to be authors. As the wife of an entrepreneur who helped my husband build a successful business, I began showing women how to create a strategic plan to achieve their goals. This led me to launch MPowering Legacy Consulting.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
In business, it’s easy to focus on acquiring new clients while overlooking one of your most valuable assets: your existing clients. These are the people who already know and trust you. By nurturing these relationships, you can unlock greater revenue, generate referrals, and build a community of loyal advocates for your brand.
Focusing on existing clients is cost-effective and when you have a referral program in place, those clients will help your business grow. In addition, I nurture those clients using a CRM, HoneyBook, to communicate efficiently.
When you prioritize your existing clients, you create a ripple effect. Satisfied clients are more likely to leave positive reviews, share your business on social media, and recommend you to their network. Each of these actions builds your reputation and helps attract more clients organically.
