We recently connected with Jordan Baeckman and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The reason I chose the Rock Rose is that, despite its delicate, tissue-paper-like petals, it grows in harsh conditions, often without a traditional root system. It symbolizes endurance, determination, and strength, which I believe align closely with my own values. I’ve always admired how something that appears so fragile can thrive in adversity, and I strive to embody that same resilience and ability to overcome challenges in my own life.

Jordan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For folks who may not have read about me before, here’s a little about who I am. I’m unapologetically me, and I hope you are, too. I’ve always been passionate about self-expression, whether it’s through tattoos, the comfort of a great pair of shoes, or spending way too much time in coffee shops. I love to laugh, especially when it comes to dark humor, and I’m fiercely dedicated to the people who matter most to me—my family and friends. Those are my cornerstones, and they shape everything I do.
How did I get into my craft? Well, it’s a mix of curiosity, creativity, and a bit of rebellious spirit. My work—whether it’s in the photography industry, Rock Rose &co, personal experience or through the creative process—has always been about pushing boundaries and bringing my authentic self into everything I create. Whether it’s weddings, newborns, or boudoir I offer, or the unique way I approach things, I’m all about offering a fresh perspective and solving real problems.
I pride myself on being able to solve 99% of problems for my clients. Whether it’s for a newborn session, where I provide all props, wraps, and family clothing, or for weddings, where I help clients find amazing vendors and solve day-of problems, what sets me apart is my relentless drive to stay true to myself and bring that energy into my work. I don’t do cookie-cutter, and I don’t play by anyone else’s rules. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished because it’s all been on my own terms. Whether it’s a major project or a personal achievement, I know I’ve stayed true to who I am..
The main thing I want people to know about me—and about my brand—is that I’m here to help you live unapologetically. If you want to work with me, expect honesty, creativity, and a no-BS approach. You’re getting the real deal, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has definitely been staying true to my authentic self and creating real connections. People can sense when you’re being genuine, and I’ve found that word-of-mouth and referrals are my best friends. I focus on building strong relationships with my clients, providing exceptional value, and being transparent and approachable every step of the way. I have learned that what is meant for me will come to me. I don’t chase.
I also lean heavily on social media and digital platforms to showcase my work and personality. I’m not just about what I do—I’m about who I am, and I think that resonates with the right people. Clients want to connect with someone they feel they can trust, and they want to see the person behind the work. By sharing my journey, my passion, and my real, unfiltered thoughts, I’ve been able to attract clients who vibe with my energy and approach.
Lastly, consistency is key. I show up regularly, whether it’s through content or interactions. When people see you’re consistently engaged and passionate about what you do, they’re more likely to trust you with their business or project.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
big lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that I had to fit into some kind of mold to be successful. For years, I thought I needed to be more polished, more ‘professional,’ and follow certain rules to be taken seriously in my field. I thought I had to act a certain way to make people respect me or take my work seriously. But the truth is, the more I tried to fit into that mold, the more disconnected I felt from my true self.
The turning point came when I realized that the things that make me unique—my personality, my quirks, my humor—are what actually draw the right people to me. I had to unlearn that “professionalism” isn’t about fitting into a box. It’s about being real, being consistent, and showing up as the person you truly are. Once I embraced that, everything shifted. My business grew, my relationships deepened, and my work felt more aligned with who I am.
I think that’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned: Stop trying to be something you’re not in order to fit in. The more you unapologetically own who you are, the more people will connect with you on a deeper level—and that’s what leads to true success.
