We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyson Whitney. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyson below.
Hi Tyson, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I really wanted to position myself as a partner to musicians and business’. Maybe more like a sidekick, and I was snowboarding with my friend, the person who actually designed the Short Round Films logos, and he said ” Why don’t you name it something from Indiana Jones or something, you like that don’t you?”. Of course I like Indiana Jones, and he mentioned Short Round and I loved it. It was perfect for what I’ve been aiming to do. Short Round Films is the perfect sidekick for your business.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started filming when I was 14 and have always wanted to make movies. I eventually ended up being a photo double on a Lifetime thriller movie and learned the production side of movies with a modest budget by shadowing the 2nd AD. I remember doing paperwork for background extras and sending about 20 background actors home with the wrong paperwork. We eventually got it corrected, but that was definitely a good lesson to learn early and to do on downtime. I eventually worked my way up into Assistant Directing, just like the person who taught me. I quickly realized, I got into this industry to tell stories and actually make stories come to life instead of managing the process. So I took a big step back from the feature film world and started focusing on shooting again, client acquisition and running a video business.
I haven’t completely fallen out of that space, for instance I was the Gaffer on a feature film my friend Dru Williams was the DP for. It had a small theatre run and was a blast to work on so I definitely enjoy that part of filmmaking and will never stop pursuing that area. Which is a big part of what sets me a part but it isn’t the only aspect. I’m not just a guy with a camera and I’m not just running a regular production company. Short Round Films is the perfect sidekick for you because we take the time to get to know you, your business, your goals, your aspirations and more importantly, your problems. We dive deep into those problems and curate an extremely customized strategy to alleviate you of those problems.
As far as filmmaking for clients of mine goes, we have packages for anybody looking to grow their online presence, connect with their already existing audience, or just downright make more sales. Whatever your problem is, I’m certain there’s a way we can utilize video to solve it. Your company can’t find solid employees and keep burning money on onboarding just to have employees quit in less than a year, we can create custom tailored training and recruiting videos for you to attract and retain the employees you actually want.
If your business has zero online presence and want to start somewhere, we have the perfect deliverable for you. It’s a Brand Story video. Essentially it’s a mini HBO quality documentary on you, the owner/founder and the brand. These are the most effective ways of connecting with your audience and gaining that like, know and trust we all seek as business owners.
If you have any sort of problem, I’d love to chat with you and see how we can help, if anything you’ll leave the phone call with somewhat of a gameplay you can implement yourself with your phone.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Underpromising and overdelivering. I strive to provide more than the initial agreement to give my client the very best experience. Not only that, I strive to have an extremely enjoyable onboarding and pre production process all the way through to the off boarding. We also will never say no. We will always try to find a way to remedy a situation.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
LinkedIn and in person networking. I think going out and shaking hands in person is the strongest and most efficient way for me to grab the attention of prospective clients. Then of course after that it’s all in the follow up. Following up has brought me more clients than any of these initial interest grabbers.
