We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mario Lanzarotti a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mario, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
To me, success is about living in alignment with your deepest desires and values while being in service to something greater than yourself or your personal ambitions. It’s not just about achieving financial milestones or gaining recognition—though those can be part of the journey—but about living in a way that feels deeply fulfilling and meaningful. Success, at its core, is about helping others while staying true to who you are.
The traditional view of success often focuses solely on personal gain—wealth, status, or accolades. While those can be byproducts of success, they are not the essence of it. A person can achieve everything society deems “successful” yet feel empty if their achievements aren’t aligned with their inner values and purpose.
I remember a turning point in my own journey that redefined my view of success. After I exited my first company, Awl & Sundry, I found myself questioning what success really meant. I had achieved what most entrepreneurs wanted, but I didn’t feel fulfilled. It wasn’t until I shifted my focus to creating the ZenPreneur movement—where I help entrepreneurs scale their businesses without burnout and align with their deeper purpose—that I truly felt successful.
Living in alignment requires constant self-awareness and courage to say no to opportunities that might look good on the surface but don’t resonate with your values. For example, one of my clients, Niv, came to me seeking financial growth, but his deeper desire was to build a business that felt meaningful and aligned with his values. By focusing on who he wanted to become as a leader and realigning his business processes, he grew his company while avoiding burnout and staying true to his vision.
When you live in alignment, you naturally attract opportunities and relationships that match your energy and purpose. That’s the real bridge from scarcity to abundance—where you’re not just surviving but thriving in a way that uplifts everyone around you.
This view of success requires redefining what “winning” means. It’s not about outperforming others but about living in a way that makes life worth living—for yourself and for others. That’s the kind of success that’s sustainable, fulfilling, and truly transformational.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Mario Lanzarotti, a businessa advisor and mindset coach, TEDx speaker, and the founder of the ZenPreneur Method. My mission is simple yet powerful: to help entrepreneurs and business owners achieve extraordinary results in their businesses without sacrificing their peace of mind, relationships, or health. In short, I help people make more money, experience more peace, and unlock their true power.
How I Got Here My journey into coaching began after I exited my first company, Awl & Sundry, in 2019. Like many entrepreneurs, I experienced firsthand the highs of success but also the emotional and physical lows that often come with chasing traditional definitions of achievement. I realized there was a better way—a way to create not just financial success but a deeply fulfilling life.
After working with thousands of business owners worldwide, I developed the ZenPreneur Method, which is rooted in a philosophy of alignment, balance, and high performance.
What I Offer I offer coaching programs for high-performing entrepreneurs, especially agency owners, helping them:
Double their income in half the time.
Scale their businesses while operating in their zone of genius.
Lead with authenticity and conscious alignment.
My services include one-on-one coaching, group programs, and guided meditative practices that go beyond traditional business advice. I combine strategic planning, deep mindset work, and somatic tools to create lasting transformation.
What Problems I Solve Most of my clients come to me because they’re experiencing one or more of these challenges:
They’re making money but feel stuck or unfulfilled.
They’re constantly grinding and on the edge of burnout.
They struggle to delegate, trust their team, or operate in their zone of genius.
They’ve hit a revenue ceiling but don’t know how to scale without losing their peace.
I help them align with their higher purpose, reframe limiting beliefs, and create a clear, actionable roadmap to achieve their goals sustainably.
What Sets Me Apart I believe what makes my approach unique is the combination of science-backed strategies and a deeply intuitive understanding of human behavior. My coaching goes far beyond the surface—helping clients uncover the root causes of their challenges and address them at the core.
I also reject the hustle-and-burnout paradigm. Success doesn’t have to come at the cost of joy, relationships, or well-being. My ZenPreneur Method focuses on creating inner peace while delivering exponential growth.
What I’m Most Proud Of I’m incredibly proud of the transformations my clients have achieved. For example:
I helped one client scale his agency from low six figures to $5 million in annual recurring revenue by building a high-performing team.
Another client tripled her income within six months by refining her positioning and client acquisition strategy.
I’ve seen clients overcome deeply rooted fears, rebuild trust in their leadership abilities, and create businesses that serve not just their goals but their lives.
Gave a TEDX talk on overcoming self-doubt that reached over 2.5 million people (views)
What I Want You to Know
Success isn’t just about the numbers in your bank account. It’s about living in alignment with your values, creating impact, and designing a life that feels deeply fulfilling.
I’m here to challenge the narrative that says you must sacrifice your well-being to succeed.
If you’re ready to create success on your terms—financial, personal, and spiritual—I’d love to help you get there.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the need to constantly prove myself to others. For much of my life, I believed that success was about being the best—achieving more, earning more, and gaining recognition. I thought that if I could reach the top and be admired by others, I would finally feel valuable. But this mindset drove me into a cycle of depression and failure.
The more I focused on achieving for the sake of feeling worthy in the eyes of others, the harder it became to actually move forward in life. My business struggled, my relationships felt hollow, and no matter how much I accomplished, I felt empty. I realized that this relentless pursuit of validation through achievement was rooted in fear and scarcity, and it was keeping me stuck.
The turning point came when I understood that success is not about you—it’s about helping others. The less I focused on myself and the more I focused on serving others wholeheartedly, the more effortless success became. When I started showing up every day with the intention to elevate others, to make their lives better and their goals more achievable, everything shifted.
Today, I’ve built a multi-six-figure coaching business, mostly through referrals. Clients recommend me not because I try to prove myself but because I focus on solving their challenges and helping them thrive. When you focus on elevating others, you naturally become elevated as well.
This approach makes success not only easier but also joyful and fulfilling. I no longer chase validation or feel the need to prove my worth through my achievements. Instead, I’ve discovered that true success comes when you align with your values, live in service to others, and let go of the need to control how you’re perceived. When you help others win, you win effortlessly in the process.
Any advice for managing a team?
Managing a team and maintaining high morale comes down to one word: alignment. A team that feels aligned with the vision, values, and mission of the company is unstoppable. Here are my core principles for achieving that alignment and building a high-morale, high-performing team:
Lead with Vision and Clarity
A leader’s role is to paint a clear, inspiring picture of the destination. People want to feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves. Share your vision often and explain how each team member contributes to it. This creates a sense of purpose and helps everyone understand why their work matters.
Example: When I helped a client struggling with team performance, we created a company credo that aligned their values with their long-term mission. Once the team understood the “why” behind their work, motivation and collaboration skyrocketed.
Prioritize Communication and Trust
Open and honest communication is the backbone of a great team. Create an environment where people feel safe to share their ideas, feedback, and even mistakes. When trust is present, morale stays high because people know they are supported.
Tip: Start team meetings with a quick gratitude round. It’s a small action, but it fosters positivity and connection.
Empower Autonomy and Accountability
High morale comes from people feeling empowered to make decisions and take ownership of their work. Set clear expectations but avoid micromanaging. Celebrate wins and hold people accountable when necessary, but always with respect and support.
Example: One of my clients was hesitant to delegate because they didn’t fully trust their team. By coaching them to delegate strategically and create accountability systems, their team not only performed better but also felt more valued and motivated.
Celebrate Small Wins
Don’t wait for big milestones to acknowledge your team’s efforts. Regularly celebrate small wins, whether it’s a shoutout in a meeting, a thank-you email, or a small token of appreciation. Recognition fuels morale like nothing else.
Example: I’ve worked with leaders who implemented weekly “win shares,” where team members highlighted personal or professional successes. It created a culture of positivity and inspired everyone to do their best.
Model Emotional Intelligence
As a leader, your energy sets the tone. Stay calm under pressure, practice empathy, and show gratitude. Teams look to their leaders not just for direction but for emotional cues. The more emotionally intelligent you are, the more resilient and motivated your team will be.
Tip: If you find yourself overwhelmed, take a moment to pause, breathe, and reframe the situation. A calm leader inspires confidence.
Invest in Their Growth
A team that feels stagnant will lose morale quickly. Invest in training, mentorship, and opportunities for growth. Show your team that you’re committed to their development, not just their output.
