We were lucky to catch up with Randii Ianeke recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Randii thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
At times, I do wish that I would have started my business sooner, however, it wasn’t feasible at the time. I started my business in September of 2016, after receiving my Bachelor’s degree a few months prior.
I attended Louisiana State University (geaux tigers!) on a full-ride scholarship for gymnastics, and once my senior year came to a close, so did a 20 year long competitive gymnastics career. So while I wish there was more time for me to hone in my creative writing skills and alternative healing practice, it wouldn’t have been realistic with my schedule.
Monday – Friday: I would go to school, go straight to gymnastics practice, get home around 9pm, eat, do homework then go to sleep and start over again. On Saturday’s, I would also practice. Outside of school, practice consisted of about 30 hours each week.
As a child, that was A LOT! I’m honestly not even sure how I did it. Haha. So looking back, I started right on time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Health and wellness has always been of interest to me, and my 20 year long gymnastics career influenced me the most. As an athlete, you learn how to overcome fear and adversity, how to work as a team, the mind/body connection and so much more! In addition to this, injuries are bound to happen, and while your patience may be tested, you learn about rehabilitation and your pain tolerance.
I utilize the various skills I learned from gymnastics in my day-to-day life. It’s a beautiful foundation for the alternative healing work that I do today, and my elite level experience, among many others, is what sets me apart within the industry.
I am a Sound Therapist, Reiki Master, Yin Yoga Instructor, Author and Poet. I am committed to guiding individuals on their journey of self-discovery, inner peace, and personal transformation by harnessing the power of sound vibrations, energy healing, and mindful movement. Through compassion, intuition, and a holistic approach, I empower others to reconnect with their true selves, release blockages, and cultivate lasting harmony in their lives.
Through my writing, I seek to shed light on the complexities of the mental health crisis in the U.S., as an advocate with lived experience, while incorporating various healing modalities throughout my spoken word performances.
Ultimately, I am most proud of my perseverance, and I want potential clients/followers/fans to know that I see you, I hear you, and I support you – through your healing journey and beyond. You got this!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the idea of “perfection”. In gymnastics, we would quite literally chase perfection, everyday, in every movement. It wasn’t until I graduated from LSU in 2016, that I started to grasp just how much of an impact it made. From not releasing projects, avoiding the spotlight for fear of judgment, to even judging the lives of others, perfection wreaked havoc in my life.
To combat this, affirmations have been KEY! I speak life into myself daily, do away with comparisons and understand that all experts were once beginners. We all have such unique paths, so as long as we follow our intuition, remain authentic as we chase our goals, our ideas will manifest and community will come.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Getting out into the community and traveling has been essential. While social media has its perks, I find that meeting potential clients where they’re at in the world has been the best source for my business, especially in the alternative healing realm. Luckily, I love adventure and experiencing all that life has to offer, so as a bi-product, I meet so many amazing people!
