Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rosa Chang-crespo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rosa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents have always done (and continue to do) anything and everything possible for my happiness and success, in every aspect of my life. They have always been by my side and are my number one supporters, both personally and in my career.
Growing up, my parents made sure I always had access to art supplies, as I’ve been interested in art since I was a child. They even enrolled me in a private art school at a young age, and that experience would go on to shape my views on creativity and freedom as an artist. I was obsessed with painting as a baby, and my parents always made sure to encourage and support my interests in every way. There was never any pressure to follow a “traditional” path.
From paintbrushes on canvases to exploring self-expression through makeup, they encouraged me to experiment with different looks, styles, and techniques. I wasn’t just playing around with makeup to look different; I was using it as a form of art—a way to express myself. They’ve always supported that. The freedom to create without fear of judgment or punishment helped me realize that beauty, like any other art form, is meant to be explored and reinvented.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Rosa Chang-Crespo, also known as “BeautybyRosita” and “RositaApplebum” and I’ve had the privilege of turning my love for art and self-expression into a full-time career in the beauty industry for over 10 years now. I’ve always been passionate about creativity, whether it was painting as a child or experimenting with makeup as a teenager. To me, beauty is more than just skin deep – it’s a way to express feelings, moods, creativity, and stories.
I got my start in the beauty industry while pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Media Communications at Hunter College. My parents have always supported me in every way, especially in my artistic pursuits, as I come from a family full of creatives and artists. What started as a personal hobby on YouTube quickly turned into a deeper fascination with the transformative power of makeup.
I decided to combine my artistic skills, love for connecting with people, and passion for beauty, and that’s how I began my career as a makeup artist and full-time beauty blogger.
I provide a range of services and creative works centered around makeup artistry, beauty tips, and tutorials. My specialty is creating everyday looks that enhance rather than completely change a person’s appearance. I also LOVE experimenting with products, which is why I focus a lot on product reviews, recommendations, and beauty hacks across my social media platforms.
Above all, I aspire to educate my audience while helping them discover beauty products that truly work for them and bring them joy. Whether it’s bridal makeup, special event glam, or something more simple and traditional, my goal is always to create looks that empower people to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.
Many of my clients come to me looking for a makeup look that enhances their features and helps them feel like their most authentic selves and I try and deliver that every single time. For my online community, I strive to provide trustworthy, genuine beauty advice, product recommendations, and inspiration for new looks with different tools and products that are accesible. I believe beauty should be accessible to everyone, and I want to create content that educates, inspires, and uplifts my community.
What I think sets me apart in the industry is my unique blend of artistic skill as a long-time makeup artist, paired with my deep passion for empowering others and building connections. I don’t view makeup as something to “cover up” or “fix”—
I see it as a way to enhance, express, and celebrate who we are individually. I am also committed to making beauty accessible, inclusive, and fun. I want my clients and supporters to feel like they’re part of a community, not just consumers of beauty content. I always say— never a fan, always my friend.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients and followers. The fact that so many people feel confident coming to me for advice or hiring me for their most special occasions is something I take great pride in. It’s not just about the final look, but the personal connection I have with each person I work with. I’m also incredibly proud of how much I’ve grown as a creator and a makeup artist. Every milestone I reach reminds me why I do what I do.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a makeup artist and online content creator is the ability to help people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. The joy and purpose I get from making others happy is truly the most amazing and fulfilling experience. Whether it’s through creating a makeup look or sharing product recommendations, I love empowering my supporters to express themselves creatively and feel good about who they are every step of the way.
The connections I have built with my clients and online community are what make this journey so rewarding.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience and online presence on social media wasn’t something that happened overnight. It’s been a journey fueled by passion, consistency, and a genuine desire to connect with people on a personal level. It all started with my love for makeup and beauty, which I first shared on YouTube as a hobby. At the beginning, I was simply experimenting with looks, trying new products, and posting makeup tutorials while I was learning makeup myself. As I shared more, I noticed people responding positively – asking questions, sharing thoughts, and requesting more content. That’s when I realized I wasn’t just creating content for myself; I was building a community.
I made it a priority to stay consistent, always engage with my supporters, and ensure that my content remained authentic. I didn’t just showcase the final makeup looks, but I also shared the highs and lows of my personal life and the beauty industry. Over time, my community grew because I stayed true to who I am. The key for me has always been creating content that resonates on a personal level and offers value beyond just “pretty pictures” and poses.
My advice to anyone starting to build a social media presence is simple: just start. Don’t worry about making “mistakes” or focusing on numbers. Your audience will grow through consistency and authenticity. A low view count doesn’t define you or your content—just keep going, keep posting. Experiment and find what feels organic, what feels good, and do more of that!
