We were lucky to catch up with Toni Harris Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Toni, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
My mantra and brand is all about being drastic. Drastic simply translated is taking a risk.
Let me share with you one of my many personal drastic stories. It was 2019 and I was this close to leaving my business. I was frustrated, lost, confused –and at one point even feeling hopeless because I started worrying about my “end game” and about how I was going to retire from coaching. (Pause)
Even though I was an international speaker, running a successful business as a business coach and an 8x author, I couldn’t see how I was going to retire. Here I was inspiring audiences to take drastic steps so that they can achieve their personal and professional goals and I was struggling to figure out my own future. I started contemplating getting a job to start a retirement plan.
Now of course I didn’t want a job –but I was petrified and didn’t really know what options I had. So, one day I visited with my friend Carol who is a money mindset coach, and told her about my predicament. She quickly pointed out to me that I was focusing on the wrong thing and simply needed to clarify my why. She explained to me that a fresh, renewed why gives me a reason to get out of bed every morning and inspires me to grow my own business. She asked me what lights me up and placed emphasis on the need for me to clarify my why.
While contemplating my why and my future, I thought about the quote from my friend, Zig Ziglar. He said, “You can have everything in life you want if you help enough people get what they want.” A few weeks later, I told Carol my why. I told her, “My why is to touch, move and inspire my clients to take drastic steps to be better than they were before they met me. I’m a resource and a connector, I want to help my clients to build deeper relationships that are beneficial to their life and business.”
She asked if I was doing that already –and I said yes, I was doing it as a speaker and coach. But when she asked me what I would need to do to get paid to connect people, I thought for a moment and replied, I would need to start a networking group but that I did not have the resources, technology, or time to start up a new venture.
Carol replied with something powerful. She said, “Toni if that is truly your why, don’t worry about the how, it will show up. You just need to be open to what’s possible.”
True to her words, a week later, a connection named Helen, I had met three months earlier at a women’s retreat followed up with me and told me that I needed to be a Network in Action franchise owner. At the time, I did not know what NIA was about––all I knew is that franchises cost a lot of money. And as expected, the franchise turned out to be an investment of $40,000 dollars –which I did not have.
But long story short, Helen had me meet the franchisor who told me about the funding option. I took what many would consider a drastic step and jumped into the franchise –and I have never looked back. Today, I’m NIA’s fastest launching franchise owner, Rookie of the Year, Brand Ambassador, launched the first virtual group and the first international group! I crossed $100K after 2 years, during COVID from doing what I love, connecting people!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
My business does have supplementary revenue streams. I like to say that Drastic Results Marketing and Sales Coaching is my blouse and Network in Action is my skirt. Together they make a complete outfit. My accessories to my business are Legalshield Business Solutions, Go High Level CRM system, Constant Contact, Mailbox Power, and other affiliate programs that bring multiple streams of income.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In December 2014, I woke up with a stomachache that led to me being in a coma for 10 days and out of work for 5 months. I was on a feeding tube and had to learn to walk again. However, through it all, I had my network who helped me to pull through. When I returned to work, I had the best year, that I ever had in my business.
