We were lucky to catch up with Angymer Del Carpio recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angymer, appreciate you joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
Throughout her career, she had the opportunity to closely collaborate with her accountant, who, needing qualified staff to handle personal and corporate taxes in 2019, subcontracted her to work on these services for free, while she was still a full-time employee. She worked without pay and as part of her learning, starting at 5 pm and on weekends.
Driven by her passion for accounting and her desire to start her own business, in 2021 she decided to leave her full-time job to found her own corporation, DCP ACCOUNTING AND CONSULTING SERVICES.
Since then, she has dedicated her career to providing specialized services in personal and corporate tax preparation, as well as monthly accounting for her clients. Her approach is characterized by a deep knowledge of Canadian tax regulations and a commitment to providing efficient and personalized financial solutions.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Angymer is a professional accountant with over a decade of experience in the accounting field. She graduated in 2011 in the Dominican Republic and emigrated to Canada in 2017 as a permanent resident with her husband, where she began working in her area of expertise, focusing on payroll management at the provincial level and later at the federal level.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I first started my accounting business, DCP Accounting and Consulting Services, I knew that having a solid online presence was key to attracting new clients. However, I wasn’t sure where to start. I had a few clients and a small network of friends, but I needed a strategy that would help me build momentum.
**Step 1: Leverage Your Existing Clients and Friends**
I knew that the first people who would help me build my online presence were the people who already knew me and trusted my work—my current clients and friends. So, I reached out to them, asking for support. I started by letting them know I was expanding my business and would appreciate it if they could help spread the word.
I created a **Facebook page** and **Instagram profile** specifically for my business and shared the links with my clients and friends. I asked them to follow the page, share my posts, and tag others who might benefit from my tax services. Since most of my clients were already satisfied with my work, they were more than happy to help.
**Step 2: Share Valuable Content**
Next, I began posting regular content that my audience would find helpful. I knew that my clients were always looking for answers to common tax questions, so I made it a point to share **tax tips**, **important deadlines**, and **changes to tax regulations** in Canada. I also posted **client testimonials** (with permission, of course), showing real people who had benefited from my services.
I shared behind-the-scenes glimpses of my day, offering a personal touch so clients could feel more connected to me. I even created short video clips explaining basic tax concepts in a friendly and easy-to-understand way, making tax-related content less intimidating.
**Step 3: Engage Actively with My Audience**
Once I had some content on my social media pages, it was time to focus on engagement. I made sure to **respond to comments** and **interact with followers** as much as possible. I would like, comment, and share posts from other local businesses or clients. Social media is all about creating conversations, so I made sure to ask questions in my posts to encourage followers to comment, share their experiences, and reach out with their own tax questions.
For example, I posted on Instagram, a podcast that I was invited to” The responses were fun and engaging, and it gave me an opportunity to correct some misconceptions about taxes while interacting with my audience.
**Step 4: Run a Referral Program**
I realized that word-of-mouth was my biggest asset, so I decided to reward my existing clients and friends for helping me grow my social media presence. I introduced a **referral program**, where clients who referred new clients through social media would receive a small discount on their next service. I encouraged them to share my posts and tag friends who might benefit from tax services.
To make this even more effective, I posted success stories of clients who had benefited from this referral program, showing them the value of both the service and the rewards they could earn. This not only helped me gain new clients but also built trust and loyalty among my existing ones.
**Step 5: Collaborate with Other Local Businesses**
As my social media presence grew, I saw an opportunity to collaborate with other local businesses. Many of my clients were also small business owners, and by partnering with local restaurants, retail stores, or other professionals, I could tap into new audiences. I reached out to a local coffee shop to run a joint promotion: “Get your taxes done with DCP Accounting and receive a free coffee at [Coffee Shop].” This promotion was a win-win for both businesses, as it introduced my services to their customers and brought foot traffic to both businesses.
**Step 6: Track Results and Improve**
As I continued to post and engage, I made sure to track the results. I kept an eye on the **insights** on Facebook and Instagram to see which posts were performing the best—whether it was tips on tax season preparation or posts showcasing client success stories. Based on this, I adapted my strategy to post more of what my audience seemed to respond to most.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2017, after emigrating from the Dominican Republic to Canada with her husband, Angymer found herself in an entirely new environment. She had over a decade of experience as an accountant, but the path forward was far from simple. As a newcomer, she faced the common hurdles of settling in a new country: adjusting to a new culture, securing a job, and navigating a different set of tax laws and regulations.
Despite these challenges, Angymer was driven by her passion for accounting and her desire to continue growing in her field. She quickly found a job in her area of expertise, focusing on payroll management at the provincial level, and later moving on to federal payroll duties. While this was an exciting opportunity, it wasn’t without its obstacles. Learning the intricacies of Canadian tax systems and staying up-to-date with changing regulations required continuous effort and focus. However, Angymer was determined to succeed.
### **The Leap of Faith**
In 2019, while working full-time, Angymer had the chance to collaborate closely with her accountant, a professional who recognized her potential. This opportunity came with a challenge. Her accountant needed someone qualified to handle personal and corporate taxes, but there was a catch—Angymer was asked to work on these services for free. With the determination to build her expertise and deepen her knowledge, she agreed, even though it meant working late into the evenings and on weekends, all while managing her full-time job.
For many, this would have been a daunting and thankless task. Working without pay and putting in extra hours outside of regular work could easily lead to burnout. But for Angymer, it was a learning experience she could not pass up. It was during this period that her resilience truly shone. Instead of viewing this unpaid opportunity as a setback, she saw it as an investment in her future. She stayed up late, studying and learning the ins and outs of tax preparation, making sure to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Her commitment paid off, as her skills grew, and so did her confidence in her abilities.
### **Taking the Leap to Entrepreneurship**
By 2021, Angymer felt the pull to take control of her own destiny. Her work with taxes and accounting had sparked a deep passion for helping others navigate their financial journey. She realized that the best way to make a bigger impact was to start her own business. Despite the uncertainty and risk of leaving the stability of her full-time job, Angymer made the bold decision to found **DCP Accounting and Consulting Services**.
Building her business from the ground up wasn’t easy. She faced doubts, long hours, and the constant challenge of establishing herself in a new market. But her resilience kept her moving forward. She drew on everything she had learned—through late-night study sessions, collaboration with seasoned professionals, and hands-on experience in the field. Her determination to succeed was fueled by her belief in the importance of offering **personalized, efficient, and knowledgeable** accounting services that could make a real difference for clients.
### **A Commitment to Excellence**
Today, Angymer’s business is thriving. She offers specialized services in both **personal and corporate tax preparation**, as well as **monthly accounting** for clients. Her deep understanding of Canadian tax regulations and her commitment to providing financial solutions that are both practical and tailored to her clients’ needs set her apart.
Looking back, the journey wasn’t always easy. There were moments of self-doubt, sleepless nights, and tough decisions. But through it all, Angymer remained resilient. She didn’t let obstacles stop her; instead, she saw each challenge as an opportunity to learn, grow, and ultimately achieve her dream. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and the belief that anything is possible when you’re willing to push through the difficulties and stay focused on your goals.
Angymer’s resilience has not only shaped her career but also inspired many who follow her journey. From working late nights for free to founding a successful business, her story proves that with resilience, you can turn challenges into stepping stones toward success.
