We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Louise Ponla a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Louise, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Ooh that is a tough one to answer but I have to say starting @together.on.the.go is probably one of the most meaningful projects. This became a platform for Gabe (my significant other) and I to honor my late father who unexpectedly passed away while we were on vacation about a year and a half ago. I am indebted to my late father for showing me the beauty in the world. For the past 24 years, I was truly grateful to have helped my late father in planning our family vacations yearly. Here I learned what it meant to plan trips efficiently. I understood how to find decent flight prices/accomodations, what are best places to sightsee, etc. I owe it all to my late father and his love for the world. To be able to continue and honor the legacy for traveling is what makes this project meaningful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Right now, I currently work as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant at a high school overseeing students with varying communicative issues from general education, mild/moderate, moderate/severe,and adults. I’m currently in the process of applying to grad school to become a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). It was through this position, I met Gabe who is currently our site’s emotionally disturbed program’s paraeducator. At this time, he is working on becoming an educational specialist for students with mild/moderate disabilities. He finished his student teaching last semester and now is studying to obtain his credentials. Our goal with @together.on.the.go is to showcase our love for traveling and how we see the world while honoring the life and legacy of my late father and his passion for travel.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is just being able to showcase our experiences. I think this is the most rewarding part because we’re able to show our love for travel and be inspired. Additionally, I believe that this platform has helped us to meet like minded individuals and be inspired. At the end of the day, it’s community over competition. We all have a story to tell and have such diverse passions and ways of storytelling.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
In this season of life, not necessarily. I do believe the purpose of @together.on.the.go is to share our local and international adventures. I believe that our goal is to be able to create meaningful moments by inspiring others to try something outside their comfort zone. Although we just started our journey not too long ago, I’ve seen the value and purpose of sharing our travels. We have been able to connect with others and been inspired to try new things and vice versa.
