We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tatiana Perone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tatiana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first knew I wanted to pursue a career in a creative/artistic field in High School when I found out it was actually possible. I first started making and editing videos when I was in middle school. It was a huge hobby of mine since then and I would do all sorts of things! For myself, my family, for school projects, etc! As I grew in High School and had to start looking for majors for college, I first thought I wanted to go the psychologist route, but quickly changed that to Digital Media. I wanted to graduate college and have a career in music video editing, but now I’ve mixed my passion for food and my editing skills to create my new path in exploring new places and making new recipes with my wheat allergy.
Tatiana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Tatiana, I’m 28 years old and was born and raised in Brooklyn NY! I think video editing and creating content has always just be in my blood and came so naturally to me. I remember creating a youtube channel when I was only like 10-11 years old, creating videos off a dingy webcam connected to my dell computer and using some weird old school program to edit. Since then, I’ve used so many different kinds of cameras and editing programs and have shot and edited things from stop motion videos, travel vlogs/recap videos, wedding videos, freelance video editing for top CEO’s, influencers, and now myself!
I provide food photography and videography content for food brands and restaurants, but also event photography and video editing services! I also own my own small business, Tati JPG, and create custom hand drawn illustrations, portraits, logos, posters, stickers, and more!
The thing I’m most proud of is the fact that I’m authentically me, I’m loud, fun and creative! Although I’m a picky eater with a wheat allergy, there’s a ton of people like me out there and when they find me, I’m hoping they will find me extremely relatable. I love to post all the struggles I go through because I can’t be the only one going through these things or experiencing these things, right? But when it comes to my food account, I will always share my best and most favorite recipes, because I’m a wizard in the kitchen – with my only experience being a food network junkie and experimenting!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I began my food content creation journey back in college, sharing everything I cooked, what I ate when dining out, and where I went. My goal was to showcase all the amazing food options out there and highlight my favorite meals.
I took a break from the account after a few years, but returned to it in 2024 with a fresh perspective. This time, my content had a new focus because I’d developed a wheat allergy and was embarking on a completely different food journey.
If I could offer any advice, it would be this: stay consistent and share everything! Even if you’re unsure about a piece of content, try it out—see what resonates with your audience. Pay attention to which posts perform better and lean into creating more of that type of content. Above all, stay consistent, do what feels authentic to you, and never force anything. Authenticity is key because people—and other creators—can always spot when something doesn’t feel genuine.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
That’s such a thoughtful question! For me, the most rewarding part is helping others feel seen or inspired. Whether it’s making someone laugh, teaching them something new, or simply making them go, “Oh, I feel that too,” it’s all about connection. Creativity has this beautiful way of breaking down barriers and letting us share a part of ourselves with the world.
