We were lucky to catch up with Natalie Wood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
It’s hard to pick one specific project to highlight. Much of the custom jewelry I create commemorates a client’s loved one or pet and it is incredibly moving to know that these pieces bring comfort to the people who wear them.

Natalie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After learning to make jewelry and various types of art from my mom while I was growing up, I started receiving requests to sell different pieces that I had made to friends and co-workers. It quickly grew into a business opportunity that allowed me to supplement my income by doing what I love, which is creating and designing artistic pieces of jewelry. Often times clients are trying to come up with a specific idea that they have in mind and I assist in putting a design together that combines both their vision and mine.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of creating custom jewelry is receiving positive feedback from a client. When my clients reach out to me thanking me for making a commemorative piece that they can wear everyday to pay tribute to their loved one or pet, it inspires me to keep creating. Knowing that I am able to help someone in what seems like a small way motivates me to continue making jewelry and art.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think there is a misconception among non-creatives about the time it takes to design and create any type of art, specifically jewelry. Sometimes people don’t understand how artists price their items and can think the items are too expensive. I like to remind people that they are not simply paying for a piece of jewelry. They are supporting an artist who spends countless hours of their time designing, creating, and making unique pieces that the customer is not going to find anywhere else. Artists have families, responsibilities, and in many cases full-time jobs. However, they dedicate any free time they can find to making something special that they hope will have a positive impact on someone else’s life, in whatever form that may be.
