Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mark Shevetone. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mark, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I’m a Las Vegas-based artist that brings the ordinary to life through vibrant, thought-provoking art. My original paintings and prints blend humor, rich color, and texture, encouraging viewers to find beauty in the unexpected. With a focus on human experiences, I use color as a universal language to evoke emotion and reflection.
At the heart of my artistry is my belief in color as a bridge between the artist and the viewer. I see each painting as a conversation, with colors and textures conveying emotions and stories that resonate with others. All the colors in nature have a story. I interpret what I see and translate it into something that connects with people.
Mark, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Born in 1965 in Beacon, NY, I was influenced by my great-uncle Alfred Pizzarelli, a celebrated New York City artist of the 1950s and ’60s. My early exposure to my uncle’s work sparked a lifelong fascination with color and texture as storytelling devices. This influence shaped my belief that art should not only speak to the viewer but also inspire emotion and introspection.
My distinctive style fuses modernity with timelessness. My primary medium, acrylic paint, is used to create highly textured, dynamic works that seem to come to life. These pieces often combine the familiar with the surreal, drawing viewers into a visual dialogue.
I try to bring the ordinary to life in thought-provoking art through my Shevetone Art Gallery (shevetoneartgallery.com) site. My original paintings and prints blend humor, rich color, and texture, encouraging viewers to find beauty in the unexpected. With a focus on human experiences, I use color as a universal language to evoke emotion and reflection.
I like to re-imagine what I see through the lens of color and texture. Each layer, each hue, each stroke of acrylic creates a dialogue. I aim to make the viewer see the world in a new way, through a unique emotional lens.
I’m very proud that my work explores the beauty of the everyday, inviting viewers to connect with the fleeting moments that make life meaningful. Through bold color and textured layers my artwork hopefully offers both a vivid burst of energy and an opportunity for calm introspection making my pieces equally dynamic and meditative.
If a viewer stops for a moment to reflect on my work—feeling something, whether it’s emotion, curiosity, or a memory—then I’ve succeeded. My art is designed to engage viewers on a deeper level, inviting them to connect with both the physical and emotional layers of the work.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
I think NFT’s certainly have a place in the art world; however there’s plenty of NFT scams now targeting artists now that give the medium a dark shadow. I think there will always be NFTs of artwork, music, and videos as a way for independent artists to be properly compensated for their work. I prefer the more classic mediums, but I think the younger generation will seek out these new mediums and use them to express their vision to the world. And that’s a good thing.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think my mission is a selfish one because it’s to express my vision of the world to others. I’m hoping that others will enjoy what I’m doing and somehow they can relate to what’s being put on canvas. I’m driven by a constant desire to improve and explore different topics. I just hope that everyone that explores my artwork connect with it somehow and then are taken on a journey of their own.
