We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nate Fleming. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nate below.
Nate, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Music has always been at the center of my life, a constant source of joy and inspiration. For as long as I can remember, every significant moment in my life has been accompanied by a song. Whether it was “Right Above It” by Lil Wayne and Drake playing during my high school graduation, “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars during my college breakup, or “Heaven” by DJ Sammy, the first EDM track I ever heard that sparked my love for dance music. Music has always been there.
My path to building The Lotus Group and LO PRO, short for Lotus Promotions, hasn’t been conventional. In college, I struggled to stay focused and ultimately flunked out. It was a challenging time, but I found a job working security at a local bar. I saved all the money I could to attend EDM festivals, dreaming of one day being part of the industry.
The turning point came when I had the opportunity to interview for a bartending position at Echostage in DC, despite having no prior experience. They took a chance on me. To be honest, I didn’t even know the difference between soda water and tonic water when I started bartending there. But for me, it was more than just a job. It was the beginning of a dream come true. I got to make money while being surrounded by the music and artists I loved.
I consistently went above and beyond. I showed up early, stayed late, and took every chance to learn. That dedication opened the door to management opportunities, where I gained invaluable experience in organizing shows for some of the biggest artists in the world and operating a top-tier music venue. Working with Club Glow, Echostage, and Soundcheck was an incredible chapter in my life, and I am forever grateful for the mentors and friends I made along the way. However, in 2023, it was time for me to take the leap and start my own venture: The Lotus Group.
The name “The Lotus Group” holds deep personal significance. In 2020, I lost my mother from pneumonia as a result of COVID-19. Before her passing, we got matching tattoos for her 65th birthday. She chose a lotus flower for its symbolic significance, symbolizing strength, resilience, and new beginnings. Naming my company The Lotus Group is a tribute to her and everything she taught me about perseverance and hope.
The Lotus Group and LO PRO are truly passion projects for me, rooted in love and commitment. The goal is to uplift artists and create unforgettable experiences for others in the same way that others have done for me!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I’ve always said that the main thing that you are managing in any management role is people. Effective managers are first and foremost effective leaders. They take the time to get to know their staff individually, and from there can determine how to interact with each of them to create the most productive and enjoyable work experience for themselves and their staff.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Reputation really comes down to two things: Attitude and Effort.
As for my attitude. I have always come to work or approached any artist, staff member or colleague with a positive attitude. I make friends easily and I approach others with the upmost respect. Regardless of if they are an internationally famous DJ or if they are on my staff. My positive attitude makes others WANT to work with me.
As for effort, I had been committed to this industry for several years before anyone in this industry had ever made a commitment to me. I speak my goals into fruition and people hear it. I show up to events whether I am working that night or not and people see it. I highlight my accomplishments in the industry, big or small, and people recognize it. That is how I have garnered respect from others in this industry.
