We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charlie Watts. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charlie below.
Alright, Charlie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
In the heart of the South, particularly in Georgia, women often face daunting challenges in receiving adequate healthcare around birth. This stark reality drew me into the field of Occupational Therapy, where I saw an urgent need to advocate for better maternal and postpartum care. As a doula and educator, I had witnessed firsthand the profound impacts of holistic support on pregnancy and childbirth, fueling my desire to specialize in pelvic health.
Meeting Amanda Shipley at Renew Pelvic Health during a project in my doctorate was pivotal. More than just a mentor, she was an illuminator, showcasing the depth that pelvic floor therapy can achieve. Amanda’s whole-person treatment approach resonated with me, reinforcing my mission to improve healthcare delivery for women during one of the most critical times of their lives.
Taking a position at Renew Pelvic Health marked a significant step forward in my career. This role as a Pelvic Floor Occupational Therapist not only aligned perfectly with my background but also solidified my commitment to advocating for enhanced pelvic health services. Reflecting on this journey, I am continually inspired by the potential to influence and improve healthcare practices in my community and beyond.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Dr. Charlie Watts, a Pelvic Floor Occupational Therapist with a Doctorate from Georgia State University. My passion for pelvic health was ignited by a combination of personal experiences and professional insights, particularly the critical need for specialized care in underserved populations, including women in the South.
My professional journey began in the realms of doula work and education, where I observed significant gaps in healthcare around birth and postpartum care. These insights drove me to pursue advanced training in pelvic health to offer comprehensive, inclusive care. I focus on providing evidence-based, holistic treatments that address the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of pelvic health.
I offer a range of specialized services including interventions for pregnancy and postpartum care, pediatric pelvic issues, and management of chronic pelvic pain. My practice is tailored to meet the unique needs of each client, incorporating both traditional and innovative therapeutic techniques for optimal outcomes.
What sets my practice apart is a strong commitment to inclusivity and holistic care. I treat individuals of all genders and am a staunch advocate for gender-affirming care, ensuring that everyone feels respected and supported in their health journey. Additionally, I am deeply committed to neurodivergent care, adapting treatments to accommodate and support the unique needs of the neurodivergent population.
I am proud of the profound impact my work has on improving clients’ quality of life, not just by alleviating physical symptoms but by fostering a deeper understanding and management of their overall health. The trust and positive feedback from my clients continually inspire me and reaffirm the importance of my work.
For those looking to address pelvic health concerns, you will find in my practice a compassionate and knowledgeable partner. My goal is to empower you with personalized care and knowledge, helping you to achieve better health and comfort. My practice stands as a beacon of specialized, inclusive, and empathetic care in the field of pelvic health, committed to enhancing the lives of those we serve.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of personalized care and community engagement. By tailoring treatments to each individual’s unique needs and consistently providing high-quality, compassionate care, I’ve been able to build a strong reputation that encourages word-of-mouth referrals, which are invaluable in the healthcare field.
Additionally, I actively engage with the community through workshops, seminars, and online platforms. These efforts not only raise awareness about pelvic health but also establish my expertise in the field. Offering free or low-cost educational sessions on topics related to pelvic health has proven particularly effective in attracting new clients who are seeking knowledgeable and empathetic care providers.
Furthermore, maintaining a strong online presence has been crucial. A well-designed website, active social media accounts, and regular contributions to blogs and forums help keep the conversation about pelvic health alive and direct potential clients to my practice. This combination of personalized care, community engagement, and a robust online presence has significantly contributed to growing my clientele.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I had the chance to go back, I would undoubtedly choose the same profession and specialty again. My work as a Pelvic Floor Occupational Therapist has been deeply fulfilling, allowing me to make a tangible difference in people’s lives by addressing an often overlooked yet crucial aspect of health. The ability to combine my passion for advocacy, especially in gender-affirming and neurodivergent care, with my professional skills has been incredibly rewarding.
The journey has had its challenges, of course, but each obstacle has only deepened my commitment and expanded my skills, making me a better therapist and advocate. The personal connections I’ve made with my clients and the visible impact on their well-being reaffirm my choice regularly. This field has not just been a career but a calling, and I would eagerly choose it again, knowing the profound effect it allows me to have on my clients’ lives.
