We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Immanie Rogers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Immanie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
The legacy that I hope to build will not only be for those who support my business but for my family and mainly my two boys. This means for me that I was a hard worker, I overcame obstacles that many people told me I wouldn’t be to, I was able to set an example to advocate for myself and others and stand firm on what is right, wrong, and what I believe in, and lastly would be that I did everything to set my children up for success and raised them right. I want to be remembered for everything I previously mentioned but also that I built my lash business from the ground up, that I was extremely smart, strong willed, funny, a great mom, and overall a good person to others.
Immanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who may not know about me and my business yet, I have a lash business and I am a lash artist!
I got into the lash industry by developing a very high interest in lashes and wanting to do them. I started while I was on maternity leave a week after I had my youngest and I thought to myself “I am at home for a while and I have nothing but time to learn how to lash.” and that’s exactly what I did! I was self taught in the beginning and sky rocketed from there by getting my name out locally and completing my education in lashing for the state as well.
My whole purpose in lashing is not only that this is a hobby for me and I love what I do but to help others enhance their looks and enhance their eyes even more because that is the focal point. I have some clients come to me and they want to either pick the eye up more visually, balance out their face, or they need just an occasional look; and this is where I come in, I’ve studied face and eye shapes to match everyone’s unique looks!
Aside from being able to help all the women I have and ones that I haven’t been able to just yet, I want them all to know my brand and work is based around me and my personality. The biggest point that I make is that I want everyone to feel comfortable, feel like they are at home, and that my lash room is an open and safe space. I pride myself on these things but also the integrity in my work and respect for my clients as well. I also have a very good trait in listening and relating to others, which is why I can connect with my clients so well and we have established an extremely good lash artist to client relationship.
Also, what I am most proud of is the exposure I have been experiencing and the support I get from people I don’t even know on a personal level, especially on social media. I just recently joined as a brand ambassador for KLD: Kats Lash Dollz and it has been amazing, especially because I get to dabble in color lash sets, I’m surrounded around other likeminded lash artists like me, and I learn something new from this group of ladies every day!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started building my audience on social media from posting everyday, it sounds simple but if you’re not used to posting to advertise yourself and your business daily, it is a challenge. I wasn’t too worried about if other people didn’t like my work or how many likes I’d get, I just had to post and see what happened. One day I posted a reel on instagram and the likes and views increased quickly, now it didn’t go viral but it caught attention of other women that are high in the lash industry, and I just kept going from there!
The advice I have for those who are just starting to build their presence is, follow people in your niche whether the following is big or small, no matter what, you’ll be seen at some point and the followers will come. Don’t get focused on if you follow more people and your followers haven’t increased yet, it’ll come. The more you comment and repost with giving credit to the author, the social media platforms will begin to push your content more.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me build my reputation is the professionalism I do uphold myself to when it comes to my business and my clients. My clients come first when it comes to lashes, they are the ones who keep me going and push my business more.
Another thing I did to uphold my reputation was find other ways to support my oldest son who is on the spectrum by raising money through my business for Autism Speaks. Between instagram and directly through Autism Speaks, I was able to raise $2,000 in less than two weeks and surpassing my goal of $500 only!
I plan on raising money for those on the spectrum again and also working on ways to thank my clients besides a simple “thank you” to them. They thank me all the time and rate my business perfectly, which in turn has granted my business to be verified and now I pushed at the top of the list on the booking site when someone is looking for a lash appointment! I plan to uphold this not only for me but for my clients, future clients, and my family as well!
