We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Guangqi Cheng. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Guangqi below.
Guangqi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
As an artist, I deeply appreciate the immense satisfaction that comes from the creative process, especially in expressing myself and engaging with the audience. The entire process is both enjoyable and full of challenges, pushing me to explore and grow. However, there are times when I feel the pressure and even consider switching to a more stable, less demanding regular job. Yet, art for me has become more than just a profession; it is an inner need I cannot let go of. It gives my life vitality and meaning. Therefore, while a regular job may seem easier, art remains my truest and most passionate pursuit.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As an animator and visualization artist, I focus on creating captivating animations and visual works. From a young age, I have been passionate about animation, and through continuous learning and practice, I have developed into a professional in this field. Animation is not just about making static images move; it is an interdisciplinary craft that involves storytelling, shot design, and special effects. Whether 2D or 3D, animation can convey deep emotions and messages through exquisite visual effects and compelling narratives. I am dedicated to transforming every creative idea into expressive visual art, ensuring that every detail comes to life. My creative philosophy is to perfectly align with the aesthetic needs of my audience and clients, helping them craft custom animations and visual designs that effectively communicate their brand message and engage their target audience. Through innovation and professionalism, I aim for my work to resonate strongly, both visually and emotionally.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
To support artists and creatives, it’s crucial to establish effective collaboration platforms. Cross-disciplinary platforms can bring together artists, designers, and technologists to innovate together, such as in virtual reality or game development. Online and offline platforms help creatives showcase their work, exchange ideas, and find collaborators. These platforms can also provide resources like asset libraries and collaboration tools for more efficient work. Additionally, creative industry accelerators and incubators offer funding and guidance to emerging artists and startups, helping them succeed faster. By fostering collaboration, these platforms can drive the growth of the creative ecosystem.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
In my creative journey, if I had accessed advanced technical resources earlier, such as real-time rendering, GPU acceleration, and cloud computing, it would have significantly boosted my efficiency, allowing me to focus more on creativity and artistry. Additionally, the development of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI) has opened up new possibilities for visual creation. AI-driven animation tools and facial capture technology can help realize creative ideas more quickly and enhance visual realism. Learning about open creative platforms and resource libraries, such as 3D model repositories and animation asset libraries, would have saved a lot of time, allowing me to focus on bringing my creative vision to life. These technologies and resources undoubtedly increase creative efficiency and help elevate the quality of the work. However, they remain tools for creation, not creators—the true creativity and artistry will always come from the artist themselves.
