Vontress, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I am working on currently. I am covering two brave women’s stories of Sexual Assault survival in hopes to spread awareness and encourage other women to share testimonies in hopes that it will help those women who feel voiceless
Vontress, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My Name is Vontress Ortega, I am a Journalist and Author. Currently I have five books in print & nearly close to the release date of my sixth. I have been a member of the California Humanities Emerging Journalist for the state of California. This allowed me to cover the water qualities in my region and learn a great deal about community welfare . The over all goal of my brand is to encourage self awareness , healing and community advocacy. I only hope that my work helps at least one person.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to trust myself . I looked outward for many answers or validations on my decisions that I started to regret . I learned that making my own mistakes is the only way to learn and gives motivation to do better the next time.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish that I have invested more in myself in the beginning. I was willing to pay others for advice and a helpful hand instead of taking the time to invest in learning on my own. This route does take time but it is very beneficial in the long run.
