Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anna Hoegner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us a story about a time you failed?
I’ve failed plenty. For a long time it felt like that’s all I did was fail. Iwas wrong. I wasn’t failing. I was avoiding anything uncomfortable for a long time in my life. That avoidance in itself was a failure, because I wasn’t trying. I didn’t believe in myself at first. I was terrified to try and fail, but it’s true that not trying at all is the biggest failure. You learn from your mistakes and learn confidence. Confidence is a beautiful lesson. I no longer run from uncomfortable, I welcome it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always had a passion for photography. Ever since I was a child. I haven’t always had the easiest life, but I have not let that stop me. At an early age I knew I was different. I was an extremely anxious child. School was my nightmare and hiding from the world was my antidote. I ended up dropping out of school, because of my mental illness. I was homeless and on drugs, I had hit my rock bottom. However, at the age of 18 I started healing. With a combination of ECT treatments, counseling, and support I worked my way through the adversity. My photography has always had a feel of “moodiness” to it. Reflecting how I seem to feel, everything. I am proud of how far I’ve come, but I’m nowhere near done. I love connecting with others while shooting their pictures. I love children and I especially love working with those within the neurodivergent community. Capturing others love from engagement photos, to family photos and more, brings me such joy.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding is seeing how much customers love their photos of them. We live in a time where seems like we are constantly judging ourselves. When I can make others see their beauty? I love that.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I just want to help others in my life. The fact that I can use my creativity to do just that? Well that is a blessing in itself.
