We recently connected with Michele Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Michele, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I just did it over and over again. Client projects, personal projects, little one off illustrations. Drawing and paintings everyday made get better at linework, physical features, memorize references, I’d try out new styles for eyes and hands and ultimately leads to the styles you see today. I still do this too. I’m curious what my work will look like in 5-10 years
I don’t know if I’d do anything differently. Mainly with this topic I guess. I’d do things differently in other areas of my work, on the business side. But learning and developing your style/work is not a process that should go slow or fast or sped up.
For me moving from just drawing and markers to my iPad and painting. The iPad transformed my business and brought me way more clients. Painting brought me joy and fun. Also a lil extra money which is nice.
Time aka money. There’s so much I’d love to learn and explore but the need for checks makes it really tough to find the time.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi I’m Mr. Scooot! I’m a 28-year-old illustrator, muralist, and artist based in Philadelphia, with roots in Italy and Scotland. Immigrating to the United States in 2001, I’ve spent the past 12 years embracing Philly’s vibrant culture while drawing inspiration from my diverse background. My work is a fusion of my heritage and city life, exploring themes such as emotional depth, culinary delights, and mental health. While my primary mediums include paint and digital tools, I’ve recently ventured into 3D art, expanding my creative horizons.
Beyond my artistic pursuits, I’m an avid reader with a lust for sci-fi and fantasy literature. My interests extend to collecting mugs and cherishing the companionship of my two feline children. Professionally, I’ve collaborated with esteemed organizations such as Mural Arts, the LA Times, Modelo, Star Chefs, local breweries and musicians, and local community organizers, infusing my distinctive style into public spaces and cultural projects.
Embracing my awkward and goofy nature, I advocate for public transport and free museums, believing in the power of creativity to foster inclusivity and inspire positive change. Whether it’s through large-scale murals or intimate illustrations, I strive to evoke emotional connections, joy and spark conversations within the community.
Also my cat secretly does all my work. Like ratatouille.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’d like to be able to paint all day. Just create work for myself and any small remaining fans. Have cats and dogs. Something simple but accomplished. Maybe own a small art shop. Live by the ocean in Portugal. Start a jam business and create a new classic shape of pasta.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
Some new form of greed taking advantage of art. Don’t want em, don’t need em, don’t make em.
