We were lucky to catch up with Unique Demorcy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Unique, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I came up with the idea from TikTok, which still amazes me. I started sharing my journey of working from home as a nurse. My most viewed is currently sitting at 40k views, and it’s a video of me introducing myself and sharing what I do as a clinical review nurse. My DMs were flooded with many questions from nurses, sharing their stories and asking for advice to help them land WFH jobs. I knew something was there because so many nurses were unaware of this untapped side of nursing. I decided to start my business, Scrubs to Pivot, to help and bring awareness to all the possibilities of what is possible with a nursing degree.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Unique, and I’m a registered nurse with 9 years of experience who discovered my calling in helping other nurses find their path in healthcare. My journey to founding Scrubs to Pivot began two years ago when I completed a life coach certification. While I initially struggled to find my niche, it was through organically sharing my experiences on TikTok that I discovered my true passion: helping nurses realize the endless possibilities within their profession. As a Career Coach specializing in nurse transitions, I guide nurses who are ready to explore non-traditional nursing roles, particularly remote opportunities. Through Scrubs to Pivot, I help nurses pivot from bedside care to fulfilling alternative nursing careers where they can thrive while maintaining their identity as healthcare professionals. What sets me and Scrubs to Pivot apart is that this business grew authentically from my own story and understanding of the nursing journey. My goal is to build a thriving, growing community of nurses supporting each other through career transitions, and our podcast serves as a valuable resource where we share success stories, career insights, and practical guidance for nurses looking to pivot their careers. I’m most proud of creating a space that serves as more than just a career resource – it’s a hub for information, community, and fellowship where nurses can find inspiration, support, and practical guidance for their career transformations. My vision for Scrubs to Pivot is to be the go-to community for nurses seeking to explore their full potential within the nursing profession. Whether through career coaching, resource sharing, our growing community platform, our informative podcast, or community connection, I’m dedicated to showing nurses that they don’t have to leave nursing to find fulfillment – they need to find their perfect fit within it. What I currently offer is specialized career coaching for nurses, helping them discover and transition into non-traditional nursing roles that align with their skills, passions, and lifestyle goals. I work with nurses to illuminate the paths they didn’t know existed and guide them through the transformation process with practical strategies and authentic support.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My advice is to start! You must move past your fear and perfectionism and start sharing your content. You may feel unsure of yourself, maybe a little cringy, but it will improve with time. Find the platform that works for you, I do not suggest posting on all social media platforms, you will burn out quickly. I suggest posting on one short-form platform, such as TikTok, and on one long-form platform, such as YouTube or even a podcast. Lastly, staying consistent with posting will pay off. Even if your content has low engagement, take it as a learning opportunity to learn how to make your content more engaging.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
YouTube University has been my resource of choice. While I am working at my full-time job, I watch YouTube videos on how to improve my content, how to improve my offer, and how to build a community. I have learned the most from YouTube; the best thing is that it’s free. I have learned from this short time in business that you must be committed to continued education; it’s the only way to stay relevant with your offer and how you market yourself to your potential clients. Some of my favorite YouTubers are Myron Golden, Omar Eltakrori, and Ashley Nicole.
