We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Gaspar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha below.
Samantha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am happy as a business owner, but running a jewelry business comes with its challenges—especially when creativity is the cornerstone of what you do. Life’s ups and downs, and even struggles like depression, can sometimes make it hard to stay inspired. To maintain stability, I also work a part-time job because I understand that entrepreneurship can be unpredictable at times.
Lately, I’ve found myself wondering if having a regular full-time job would be easier. The thought crosses my mind because it promises structure and less emotional strain. However, my passion for designing and creating jewelry always pulls me back. What truly keeps me going is hearing from customers who love their pieces and share how confident and beautiful they feel wearing them. Those moments remind me why I started this journey and why I continue to keep my business alive despite the challenges.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Samantha, and I founded Muerte Profana in 2018 with a former friend. At the time, we couldn’t find many jewelry shops offering the styles we wanted to wear, so we decided to create them ourselves. About a year later, we parted ways, and I took the reins of Muerte Profana, rebranding it to fully reflect my own style and vision.
Muerte Profana is a jewelry brand for lovers of metal, goth, the occult, and anyone who wants to feel badass and sexy. My designs are all about making bold statements, incorporating metallic elements, spikes, chains, bones, bugs and dramatic shapes. It’s a brand for individuals who embrace self-expression, confidence, and a passion for unconventional, eye-catching accessories.
What sets Muerte Profana apart is the intention behind every piece. My goal is to create jewelry that makes the wearer feel sexy, confident, and empowered. That’s why I describe my creations as “Jewelry you can conquer in.” I’m proud to offer pieces that help people celebrate their unique style and unapologetically own who they are.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by learning how to take eye-catching photos that would resonate with my target audience. By sharing content I believed my audience would enjoy and want to share, more and more people started discovering my creations and following my brand. Back in 2020, I was also very active on TikTok, which helped me grow my following significantly. Additionally, my friends and my lovely customers have been a huge help by sharing my posts and spreading the word about my brand.
For anyone starting to build their social media presence, my advice would be:
Learn how to work with the algorithm—post consistently and engage with your audience.
Don’t be afraid to invest in paid promotions to boost your posts.
Host giveaways to encourage engagement and attract new followers.
Create reels and make lots of content that you’re proud of and that your audience will love and share.
I’m still figuring out the social media game myself, but the most important things are to stay true to yourself, know your target audience, and focus on what sets you apart. Authenticity and creativity go a long way when building your presence.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I have some pendant designs that I get manufactured. My journey into manufacturing began during an internship, where I learned how to look for a manufacturer and gained a solid foundation in the basics of the process. I ended up going with the first manufacturer I found, and they’ve been a reliable partner ever since.
Through this experience, I’ve learned several important lessons about manufacturing:
Know Your Market: Before manufacturing anything—especially in bulk—it’s essential to ensure the product will sell. Pairing your product launch with a solid marketing campaign is crucial for success.
Stick to Your Vision: Be very specific about your design and don’t let the manufacturer steer you away from your vision. If they can’t deliver what you want, don’t compromise—there’s always another vendor who can meet your expectations.
Budget Wisely: Manufacturing can be expensive, so it’s critical to ensure the process fits within your budget. Plan carefully and make sure you can sell the inventory you’re producing.
These lessons have shaped the way I approach manufacturing and have helped me stay true to my creative vision while managing the practical side of bringing products to life.
