Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my career in the corporate world of marketing and after a large home renovation project I decided to switch careers! I started my business while working a full time job. It wasn’t easy but I was excited to work on something that I was passionate about. I spent a lot of time interviewing people in the renovation and construction fields to learn as much as I could before taking on a client. I was fortunate to find a contractor and architect who were awesome and taught me the ropes. The contractor had been in business for 30 years and he told me that he stills learns something new with every project. It’s one of the reasons I love construction and design. With each project I learn something new.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no! Running my business has its headaches and then I have the actual work I need to do for my clients. Together this can be overwhelming at times. Learning how to navigate the ups and downs of running a business and working with clients is something that takes time. The better I got at both, the less headaches I faced. Having confidence and knowing that I am providing a superior service has helped me stay focused and not get discouraged. There are always going to be bumps along the road and most of them aren’t do or die! No matter what the client thinks!

I own In the Deets, a design firm specializing in remodels, additions and new construction. What makes us stand out is our unique design-driven build process that makes construction projects hassle-free, on time & in budget, with high quality results.
We understand how homes are built and all of the decisions that need to be made. Before any construction work is started we select every finish material and design every space down to the tiniest detail. All orders are staged and ready to place before construction begins ensuring the contractor can work without any delays.
Our biggest differentiator is how intertwined we are with the construction process. We don’t just hand off design plans. We show up weekly, on site to double check all demo, framing, rough-in trade work, and manage the finish work to ensure our design intent is carried out. As the project evolves we update our design plans, submit revisions, place & receive material orders, and manage the budget. We do the hard work, so our clients don’t have to!

How do we do this every time? It’s easy, we partnered with a female general contractor. Two moms managing a build is nothing compared to our kids’ carpool schedules!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am extremely competitive and athletic! I workout lifting heavy weights 4-5 times a week. I grew up playing basketball and waterpolo. And I love a good competition.
