Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Goldberg
Hi Judy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little girl growing up in Maryland, I’ve been driven by creativity and a passion for sharing it with others. My career began in teaching, which quickly revealed my love for helping people learn and grow, as well as my comfort in leadership roles.
Eventually, I transitioned into the world of media and entertainment, spending 10 exciting years as an L&D executive at the Discovery Network (now known as Warner Bros. Discovery). This time in my life was immensely rewarding – I traveled around the globe, lived in London, and worked with incredible and talented people.
When I decided to leave Discovery to start my own business, many were incredulous. “Judy,” they’d say, “you have the best job. You love it, why would you leave?” They were right – I did love my job. But I felt a new calling that I needed to answer. It was time for a fresh challenge: learning to run my own business and supporting other businesses and leaders in a unique, creative ‘Wondershift’ way.
This inspiration led me to create Wondershift a decade ago. Since then, it’s been a journey of rewards, challenges, excitement, and deep fulfillment. Through Wondershift, I offer personalized leadership development and organizational transformation services, drawing on my diverse experiences to partner with clients to explore what is working, what is not, what could be different.
Wondershift is all about shift—shifting minds, behaviors, teams, strategy, leadership styles. I have an amazing team of trusted partners, and together we work with clients to turn their “I wonder…?” questions into actionable plans, synthesizing and simplifying the way forward. I thrive on problem-solving and opportunity-seeking, working closely with leaders at all levels and executive teams to map out strategic plans that align with their mission and values.
Last year, I achieved an 8-year goal by publishing my first book, the Wake Up and Wondershift Journal. This book compiles 50 exercises that have helped me and my clients navigate life and work transitions.
To complement the book, I’ve developed a suite of offerings:
– A retreat experience in Portugal
– Shift + Shine Collective Journalling sessions
– A “Wake Up and Wondershift Journal Jumpstart” video series
These resources have proven effective across generations and genders, helping individuals and teams manage transitions. The focus is on cutting through noise to address what truly matters for each person.
When I reflect on my career thus far, what sticks out to me is how deeply in sync it has been with my core values. Every step of the way, I’ve been fueled by curiosity, continuously learning, and finding new ways to challenge myself. It’s been a journey of personal evolution, where each new opportunity has pushed me to expand my understanding of the human spirit, leadership, connection, and impact..
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s no avoiding the winding roads of life. On my path, by far one of the toughest challenges I’ve endured was my breast cancer diagnosis in 2017. At the time I made the difficult decision to leave London and move to New York, where I’d have more support from family and friends.
Each cancer survivor’s story is different and unique and personal. During my journey, I adopted a scientific and growth mindset that transformed my approach to healing. I meticulously documented my experiences on the CaringBridge platform, tracking details of interactions with doctors, surgeries, emotions, and moments of despair and awe.
By embracing resilience and positivity and applying techniques I have used with clients for years, I was able to overcome setbacks and celebrate the small victories. These experiences, combined with the tools and techniques I put into practice, became the foundation for the Wake Up and Wondershift Journal. I am 9 months into my healing from my last surgery and continue to facilitate my own healing and mindset while also supporting others facing similar challenges.
