Today we’d like to introduce you to Danika Cooper
Hi Danika, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Born from a personal need, Danika Cooper Jewellery has blossomed into a celebration of individuality and Pacific influence.
Our story began with a simple desire: jewellery that fit and flattered everyone. When Tumua struggled to find pieces that accommodated his larger size, Danika, with her lifelong love for adornment, decided to take matters into her own hands.
Fueled by creativity and a deep respect for Polynesian heritage, Danika Cooper Jewellery was born. We handcraft a diverse range of jewellery, from everyday essentials to luxurious statement pieces, all designed to empower you to express your unique style.
Our core values guide every step of the journey:
Inclusivity: We believe in jewellery for everyone, regardless of size or budget.
Quality: We use high-quality materials and traditional techniques to create pieces that last.
Affordability: Luxury shouldn’t come at a premium. We offer beautiful pieces at accessible prices.
Sustainability: We source our materials responsibly and strive for eco-conscious practices.
Heritage: The rich tapestry of Polynesian cultures inspires our designs and storytelling.
A Passion for Pearls:
Danika Cooper Jewellery is a proud member of the Cultured Pearl Association of America (CPAA). We hold a special place in our hearts for Tahitian black pearls, known for their mesmerizing iridescence and natural beauty. We work directly with pearl farms in French Polynesia to source these unique gems, ensuring each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.
More than just jewellery, we create heirlooms to be cherished for generations.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth sailing. Like many small businesses, we have faced our fair share of challenges. Securing initial funding and capital was a hurdle, as we needed to invest in inventory, equipment, and marketing. Understanding our target market, competition, and the demand for our handcrafted jewellery has been essential and ongoing for successful operations. Navigating economic downturns, including the global pandemic, presented significant challenges as consumer spending decreased. Adapting to the digital landscape with e-commerce and effective digital marketing was crucial to reach a wider audience and stay competitive. Balancing the demands of running a business with personal and professional responsibilities has been a juggle. We have two young boys (4 and 1.5 years) and they keep us on our toes. The long hours and sacrifices of building the business have also been something we have had to navigate..
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As the founder of Danika Cooper Jewellery Limited, I’ve always believed in the power of personal connection. Crafting exquisite pieces is just one part of the equation. The other, equally important part, is building genuine relationships with my clients. I strive to create a space where everyone feels valued, respected, and understood. From the initial consultation to the final delivery, I’m dedicated to providing a personalized experience that exceeds expectations.
Being named a finalist for the 2degrees Auckland Business Awards is a huge honor. It’s a recognition of the hard work, dedication, and passion that goes into every piece I create. I’m excited to see what the future holds and am hopeful that this award will further elevate my business and allow me to continue sharing my love of jewelry with the world.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always grateful for the support I receive from my customers and community. There are so many ways to support our business, from purchasing a piece to recommending us to friends and family. I’m also open to collaborations with other artists and businesses, and I love hearing feedback and suggestions from my customers. Every bit of support helps me continue to grow and share my passion for handcrafted jewellery with the world.
