Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Bell
Hi Jake, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first dabbled in producing toward the end of 2017. It was nothing special, I was only 14 and just making beats on Garageband on my phone. I did this for a couple of years and got pretty good at it. It wasn’t until 2019 that I started to put vocals over the beats I made. I was going through a pretty rough time mentally and used it as an emotional outlet. My mom used to tell me I had a good singing voice as a kid, so I gave it a chance and it paid off.
I could spend hours talking about my musical journey from this point, but I’m grateful for the experiences I’ve had and the people I’ve met.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been a couple of key challenges that have shaped my career as an artist. Especially when you’re starting, it takes a lot of confidence to keep pushing forward when things aren’t going your way. If your songs aren’t gaining much traction, or if you have a bad performance, it’s hard to keep your head up. I just try to learn as much as I can from every experience.
You’re going to fail, failure is a part of life. It took years for my music to start growing, and once you get momentum don’t let your foot off the gas.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a musician. I’m a singer, producer, and audio engineer. I specialize in making alternative hip-hop songs and have kept that pretty consistent for the better half of the last decade.
I’m most proud of some of the songs I made with my friends. Especially the ones we made a few years ago as teenagers, it’s amazing the see the impact we had on the underground community. I’m super happy that our songs have been able to help people through their problems, just as they have mine.
I don’t think anything in my work sets me apart from others. You could probably hear a million songs that sound like mine. I just strive to be the best person I can be day in and day out.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
The only thing I can think of would be that I have Tourette Syndrome. Of course, the people who personally know me already know, but people online probably wouldn’t know that. I’m used to it now and it doesn’t bother me.
