Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Thomas
Hi Nick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I first moved to New York City to be a chef and worked here for a few years at the iconic Gramercy Tavern. Whilst there I started studying and performing improv at the Peoples Improv Theater(The PIT). I fell in love with performing which led me to walk away from my culinary career and start full time at acting school HB Studios.
After years of training and studying and auditions and failures and successes I find myself as a working actor and writer in New York.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle, which I think so many of us in the arts face is self doubt. Learning to trust yourself, your ideas and your creative instinct takes a while. Trusting that is is ok to fail as along as you keep trying and trusting that it is ok to create something that not everybody may like.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently I am a producer, writer, director and actor at spit&vigor theatre co. We are based in the West Village and produce new and original theatre. We have performed multiple times off-broadway and also run out own intimate theatre space, spit&vigor’s tiny baby black box theatre.
One show that we have been producing for over a year, is my play called Anonymous. This play is set at an AA meeting where circumstances cause an upheaval in the running of the meeting. This is a very intimate play where the audience actually sits in the circe with the actors crating a unique experience that we call embedded theater.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think I have a drive to succeed and also I trust my ideas and my creative process. As well as that drive, I have a sense of fluidity with what drives me and am able to roll with the punches and go with the flow as needed.
