Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Aprea.
Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I really got started as a professional photographer after having my daughter and investing in a DSLR to really practice with my new little model! A lot of parent photographers have a similar story. I was also having a really difficult time with the offices I was working in with poor management and felt like my life was worth more than dealing with a terrible office life while missing out on the time with my child. I started taking on clients to build my portfolio and learn more about the industry while still working until I felt like I was in a more comfortable place to start contributing to our household costs. It’s all history from there!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course! Life is full of ups and downs and so is business. The worst was when I thought I’d love to specialize in In-Home Documentary Family Sessions, invested a lot of marketing money between social media adds and physical advertising like brochures and business cards but then 2020 happened and no one was going inside anyone’s homes! Last August I was also rear ended while my car was at a full stop by a car that was speeding up an off ramp – I lost over a month of my busiest photography season due to how sore my body was. It’s also been a full year of doctor’s appointments between imaging, physical therapy and the chiropractor. Having procedures in place for when I’m unable to work is super important!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Aprea Media?
My business is Aprea Media – we’re based just south of Boston, Massachusetts and specialize in weddings, events and family photography. I would say we are known more for wedding services now even though I started this business working with families. We are most proud of and most known for our customer service and compassion for our clients! We truly love our couples and love working with them. My husband assists me with weddings so we are really a package deal.
Before booking a couple we have a meet and greet to make sure we are the right fit – our clients know when they meet us that their expectations will be met, our style meets their wants and we are personable and professional! We are attentive to not only our couples on their wedding day but also to their family and friends. We have been referred to as a “warm and welcoming presence” and having a “great energy!” John, my husband, and I are both hyper aware of other’s feelings – we can tell when someone feels off or not at ease and strive to make everyone feel comfortable. I think this is the most important part of our brand! Most professional photographers in our category are talented with their camera and editing styles but I know our personalities and customer interactions are what really set us apart!
We offer any events, parties, corporate retreats and day events, weddings of all sizes and family sessions!
What were you like growing up?
I was such an introvert! I always had a disposable or film camera on me. I loved taking pictures of people and landscapes all though I didn’t get to travel a lot as a child. In high school I pretty much lived in our art room or chorus room. I loved to draw and spend time with my small group of best friends, who are STILL my best friends! Something to know about me is that I’m truly committed and loyal to anyone close to me.
