Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jill Nowak. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jill, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?

To be successful, I think you need a combination of hard work, a little luck, good timing but most importantly a passion for what you want to achieve.

Jill, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Any Lab Test Now is on a mission! We are a independent lab collection facility that empowers people to take control over their own health by offering low cost lab testing with no doctors orders needed. We offer the tests YOU want with same day service and fast results.

In 2020, I began noticing changes in myself that I could not get a handle on. Things I had never experienced before. I started experiencing anxiety, restless nights, weight loss, my hair falling out by the handful, vitals that would not stay stable, and a feeling that my body was made of lead. At the time I had no health insurance so I made the decision to wait it out and see if my body would rebound on its own. But sadly over the next few months I was not improving but feeling sicker by the day. I knew I needed a professional evaluation but with health care costs being so high, I simply could n0t bring myself to pay out of pocket for doctors and inflated lab work. After five months of agony, I finally received health insurance and promptly dragged myself to the doctor. The very kind doctor agreed I needed to start with blood work but informed me that my insurance would only allow for the most basic of blood tests. As I sat in the exam room, I cried and begged her to dig a little deeper and run some basic hormone and vitamin level tests as well. I’m sure I looked like a crumpled mess with now only a half full head of hair. She explained that she was bound by insurance but if this first round of testing came back clear, that she would advocate for me to elevate to more in depth testing. As I feared, this initial round of blood testing came back normal and I promptly booked a new appointment with my doctor. During this second visit, the doctor got the insurance approval for some more in depth testing which would include hormones and vitamins. For the next week I waited on pins and needles, hopeful for some much needed answers.

After six months of failing health, I got the call I desperately needed, One of my vitamin levels was critically low and I needed to start treatment immediately. It was a long road to regain my health but after three months of vitamin infusions, I began to get my life back and after two years, my hair had grown back. During this recovery period, I began to notice a childhood friend of mine was opening up a business in our hometown. Something drew me to his story and I knew I needed more information. I contacted him and listened as he explained the mission of this company. He explained that he was opening up a branch of Any Lab Test Now and outlined to me what sets them apart from traditional labs. I was dumbfounded as I listened. This was a lab that had I known it existed, I could have simply come in on my own terms and ordered the blood tests that I knew from the start (and had shamelessly begged for) that I had needed without needing the approval of a doctor or insurance company. If I would have found them sooner, I would’ve saved myself six months! Six months of hair loss. Six months of being near bed ridden. Six months of lost income. At that moment I knew that I wanted to help extend the mission of Any Lab Test Now and bring to the public what I had desperately needed and didn’t know was even a possibility, I pitched the idea to my now business partner and fellow RN Stacy and two years later, there is now an Any Lab Test Now in Tualatin, Oregon. We proudly offer our community the chance to take control over their own health needs! It’s a great honor to be able to bring people this much needed service. Our customers often tell us their own stories that parallel my own experience. Being a small business owner is one of the most trying things I have ever taken on but seeing how this service positively impacts the great community we live in makes it all worth it.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

As a child, my ambition was to be in the medical field as an MD or a physical therapist. Medicine is my passion! I graduated with my BS and went on to work with community youth for two decades while I raised my family. While planning for the next chapter of my life, I made the decision to go back to school to become an RN and pursue my passion for health and patient care. During my first day in nursing school orientation, I felt out of place. I wasn’t the typical 20 something starting a career. I had an established career already and was pivoting to something I felt drawn to do. I walked into orientation and promptly took a seat in the back. Our table housed three other aspiring RN’s, one of which was Stacy. Stacy and I had so much in common that we became fast friends. We both were going back to school. We both were raising families. We both had a passion for health care. We strangely both wanted to move from Arizona to Oregon someday. Over the next two years our friendship developed and we painstakingly helped each other graduate from nursing school. During this time, our families became friends and we all made the move to Oregon. While working as RNs, Stacy and I often talked about wanting to start our own business. We would bounce ideas off each other when they would come up. Nothing really quite fit both of our needs and passions until that fateful day when I reached out to my childhood friend that was opening up his first Any Lab Test Now. When I presented Stacy with this newest idea, we both knew this was the right fit for us both!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

Any Lab Test Now was established more than 30 years ago now with more than 200 locations across the US. When people think about lab testing, they automatically think of a traditional lab where you must visit your doctor and concede to what that practitioner tell you to get tested. You then make your appointment and sometimes wait for weeks before you are seen and often weeks more to obtain your test results. The entire process is expensive and can take sometimes months! People often don’t know there is another alternative to get the testing you want when you want. Because most people don’t know there is an alternative, brand awareness is crucial for our growth strategy. We take pride in what we do and being able to go out into our community for health fairs and to meet and speak with providers has been crucial for allowing people to know we are here to help. We take full advantage of every opportunity for brand awareness in our community. There are some states, especially on the east coast where it all started, where Any Lab Test Now has store fronts in every city. The brand is newer on the west coast however. We have been featured on our local news and radio station and as we build brand awareness within our community, we are seeing those efforts pay off. People love our connivence and our reviews speak for themselves. We offer the highest quality customer service experience and truly are a hidden gem in Oregon!
