We recently connected with Kajohnae Josaphat and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kajohnae, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career
One of the things that I would change about the education system to prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career would be to normalize working for themselves. In schools the focus is to make good grades, Maintain a high GPA, obtain a bachelors / masters degree and get a good job. Why not normalize our kids to get a great education to start their own LLC’s and invest in properties, stocks, and bonds. Growing up I attended some of the best schools and colleges. I attended Windsor Hills Math Science Aerospace Magnet school for elementary, Orville Wright Middle School for junior high, Westchester High for senior high, and Los Angeles Trade Tech for college. While attending school I was taught to get good grades, maintain a 3.5 GPA, get a scholarship to attend college and find a job with a 401K plan. Had I known then what I know now , I would have followed the same curriculum, however, not including looking for a job. I would have applied myself to learning more about business and investment. Schools didn’t teach me to focus on self employment. Schools prepared you with skills to work for someone else. Entrepreneurial skills were considered as hobbies and not a way to live in our economy today. I would definitely tell our children today that they can do whatever they put their mind to doing and it is OK to start a business and pass down generational wealth.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Allow me to introduce myself….
My name is Kajohnae Josaphat I am the founder and owner of 24K haircare products LLC and 24KayHair Salon.
I graduated from Los Angeles Trade tech college with an Associates Degree in cosmetology. In January 2020 I obtained my California cosmetology state board license and five months later I graduated with a 3.5 GPA, three Dean’s list awards, and one college presidential award. I worked full-time as a field supervisor for Securitas security services for 10 years while deciding the best way to exit the security field without financially hurting myself or my family. In July 2019 I was terminated from Securitas and began working as a hairstylist assistant at RVM Twist and RVM salon while finishing cosmetology school.
In my younger years I always desired to be a hairstylist, However, doing hair in my father’s home was considered a hobby and not a career/ job. Therefore, doing what I was “Told” to do and not doing what I “wanted” to do I applied for a deputy sheriff position with San Bernardino County and became a deputy sheriff trainee. One month before my graduation my father passed away from cancer and I never looked back. I lost my biggest cheerleader in my life and I was lost and Outdone with what career path I wanted from that point.
After working for major companies the majority of my adult life and being a hairstylist assistant, I decided to be my own boss with my own salon suite and my own hair care line. I began developing various hair care products while in cosmetology school. I passed out samples to hairstylist, classmates, close friends, and the feedback was pleasant.
I lived in Vegas for a short time, and I was able to visit many of the hair schools and educate the students on my hair care line. I provided a sample box to all of the students, staff, and they truly appreciated it and loved the way my product worked on their hair. My idea was to introduce the future hairstylist to natural products that can produce the same outcome as commercial manufacturers products that have harmful parabens and cancer-causing agents in them. I want the world to know that we can accomplish the same goals with natural products instead of harsh chemicals that can have Negative affects later down the road.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
All of my 24K hair care products are made in my smoke free / pet free home. To fund my business I sold products out of my black Jansport backpack, I sold products out of the trunk of my car, I also made local deliveries to hair salons and homes. I could not afford to ship my items out of the state of California or more than 100 miles outside of Los Angeles to profit and therefore that was how I saved money to fund my businesses. I had to be the delivery carrier for 24K Haircare Products, LLC.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I manufacture my own products. 24K haircare products is a in home business and I wanted to ensure that all my customers received honest purchases. I started making my haircare products when I was in cosmetology school. Every weekend I would work on perfecting my ingredients in my products. Once I perfected my ingredients I then perfected my marketing and packaging. 24K has a specific way of packing all the products for shipping and local product delivery. I utilized canva, Amazon, vista prints, and some Etsy stores just to name a few vendors I needed to create the brand labels and shipping boxes. One thing that I’ve learned in business is that all orders should be paid in full before manufacturing. 24K haircare products are made to order. Nothing is ever sitting on shelves for long periods of time. The shelf life on 24K haircare products is one year. However, when an ordered is placed typically on a Monday, the order is ready to be delivered or shipped on a Tuesday. Freshness is always guaranteed when purchasing from 24K
