We recently connected with Dr. Wes Fisher and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Wes, appreciate you joining us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
Absolutely! One of the stories that stands out to me is from one of my students who joined The Contracting Blueprint mentorship program with absolutely no prior experience in government contracting. She had just formed her LLC, obtained her EIN, and registered on Sam.gov but was completely overwhelmed by what steps to take next. She didn’t know how to find opportunities, let alone submit a competitive proposal.
Within just a few weeks of starting the program, she fully embraced the process I teach — the middleman strategy. She followed the three-step system: finding opportunities, getting quotes from subcontractors, and submitting proposals. She worked closely with our coaches, stayed consistent, and trusted the process.
Here’s the kicker: within 90 days, she landed her first government contract worth $1.2 million! What’s even better is that she didn’t have to perform any physical labor or own the equipment herself. She simply acted as the middleman, managing subcontractors and ensuring the project’s completion.
This result wasn’t just a win financially — it was life-changing for her and her family. She went from feeling unsure about her ability to break into this industry to completely transforming her confidence and financial future. Now, she’s scaling her business, has landed multiple contracts since then, and is proof that anyone can succeed in this space with the right guidance.
What makes this story so meaningful is that it reflects the heart of what I do: helping ordinary people create extraordinary results. This student’s success shows the power of persistence and the effectiveness of the system we’ve built.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
About Me and How I Got Started
Hi, I’m Dr. Wes Fisher, founder of The Contracting Blueprint. My journey into the world of business and government contracting wasn’t traditional. I started with the drive to create a better life for myself and my family, but I didn’t have a huge budget or a business that required physical labor. I discovered the “middleman” strategy within government contracting—a method that allows you to secure government contracts without ever lifting a hammer or managing physical labor. This approach completely changed my life, helping me build a 7-figure business while teaching others how to do the same.
I entered this industry because I saw an opportunity to disrupt the traditional way of doing business in the government space. I didn’t have a construction company or technical expertise, but I realized I could facilitate opportunities between the government and subcontractors. This revelation helped me achieve financial freedom, and it’s the same blueprint I now teach to others who want to succeed.

The Problems We Solve
Many aspiring entrepreneurs don’t know where to begin in the world of government contracting. It can feel overwhelming to navigate registration systems like SAM.gov, find viable opportunities, submit proposals, and win contracts. What sets The Contracting Blueprint apart is that we simplify this process into a step-by-step system that eliminates the guesswork.
Our middleman strategy allows students to enter the space without needing to own a business that provides direct labor or services. Instead, they focus on finding opportunities, subcontracting the work, and managing the process—all while profiting from the deal.

What I’m Most Proud Of
I’m incredibly proud of the success stories that have come out of our program. From students winning their first $50,000 contract to others scaling to $1 million or more in government awards, these stories are a testament to the power of the blueprint we’ve built.
I’m also proud of the community we’ve created. It’s more than just a mentorship program—it’s a network of people who are pushing each other to succeed, collaborating on projects, and growing together. We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How I Built My Social Media Audience
When I first started The Contracting Blueprint, I had no audience. I was just a guy with a strategy that worked and a passion for sharing it. My social media journey began out of necessity—I wanted to help others learn about government contracting and grow their businesses, but I didn’t have a big platform to start with. Over time, I realized that showing people the results and providing real value consistently would be the key to building trust and attracting an audience.
I focused on platforms where I felt my message could resonate, like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Early on, I started sharing content that broke down complex topics like government contracting into simple, actionable steps. I wanted to be the bridge for people who knew nothing about the industry and get them to a point where they could say, “I can actually do this.”
One of the biggest things that helped me grow was storytelling. Whether it was sharing my own journey or success stories from my students, I used social media to inspire and educate. People love to see what’s possible when they put in the work, so I made a point to highlight student wins, like landing their first government contract or scaling their business to six or seven figures.
Another huge factor was consistency. I didn’t just post when I felt like it; I treated it like part of my job. Posting regularly—whether it was a tip, a motivational story, or a video breaking down a strategy—helped me stay top-of-mind with my audience. Over time, this consistent value built trust and credibility, and my audience grew organically.
Lastly, I focused on engagement. I didn’t just post and leave. I made it a point to answer questions, respond to comments, and connect with people in my DMs. Social media is about building relationships, and the more I engaged, the more my audience felt connected to me and the message I was sharing.
Advice for Those Just Starting to Build a Social Media Presence
1. Focus on Providing Value
If you want to build an audience, focus less on trying to go viral and more on providing consistent, actionable value. What can you teach, share, or inspire that will make someone’s life better? People will follow you if they feel you’re genuinely helping them.
2. Show the Journey, Not Just the Destination
It’s easy to want to look like you have it all figured out, but people connect with authenticity. Share your wins, your lessons, and even your struggles. When you’re transparent about your journey, your audience will root for you and stick around to see what happens next.
3. Stay Consistent
Consistency is the name of the game. Whether it’s posting every day or three times a week, pick a schedule you can stick to and commit to showing up. Even when it feels like no one is watching, keep going. The audience will come if you stay consistent.
4. Engage With Your Community
Social media is about building relationships. Respond to comments, answer DMs, and ask your audience questions. When you engage with people, they’re more likely to stick around and support your growth.
5. Find Your Niche and Stick to It
What are you passionate about? What problem are you solving? Focus on one or two core topics that you can talk about endlessly and position yourself as an expert in that space. For me, it was government contracting, and I’ve stuck to that lane ever since.
6. Don’t Be Afraid to Start Small
It’s easy to compare yourself to influencers with huge audiences, but everyone starts somewhere. Focus on the people who are watching now and give them your best. Even if you’re impacting just one person, that’s where the magic begins.
7. Invest in Good Content
Your content is your storefront. Whether it’s a well-lit video or a clear, concise caption, make sure your content is professional and easy to digest. But don’t let perfection stop you—start where you are, and improve as you go.
Building a social media presence takes time, but if you focus on providing value, engaging with your audience, and staying consistent, you’ll be amazed at what’s possible. Remember, it’s not about growing overnight; it’s about building a community that trusts you, resonates with your message, and takes action because of the value you provide.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Lesson I Had to Unlearn: “Playing It Safe”
When I was a school teacher making $50,000 a year, I was living a life I thought was the definition of stability and success. I had a steady paycheck, benefits, and a clear career path. But deep down, I felt stuck. I was working hard every single day, pouring my energy into shaping young minds, but the financial ceiling and limited freedom weighed heavily on me. It wasn’t that I didn’t love teaching—I did—but I started to question whether playing it safe and sticking to the “secure” path was holding me back from something greater.
The backstory is that, like many people, I grew up believing that the key to success was a stable job, a consistent paycheck, and minimal risk. That mindset had served me well up to a point—I had a respectable career and was making an impact in the classroom. But as much as I loved teaching, I couldn’t ignore the frustration of knowing I wasn’t reaching my full potential, especially financially.
I first learned about government contracting almost by accident. At the time, I had zero experience in business and definitely no knowledge of government contracts. But as I started to research and dig deeper, I realized there was an incredible opportunity to build something on my own terms. The government spends trillions of dollars annually, and a portion of that budget is dedicated to small businesses. That’s when it hit me—this was an opportunity to completely transform my life if I was willing to step out of my comfort zone.
But stepping into this new world wasn’t easy. I had to unlearn the mindset of “playing it safe.” I had to stop seeing risk as something to avoid and start seeing it as an opportunity for growth. I had to let go of the belief that a stable paycheck was the only way to succeed.
How I Unlearned It
My first step into government contracting was anything but smooth. I didn’t know the terminology, the systems, or even where to start. But instead of letting that intimidate me, I leaned into learning. I spent hours studying, asking questions, and failing forward. I invested in myself—both financially and mentally.
There were moments of doubt—quitting my teaching job to take on this uncertain path wasn’t an easy decision. But I kept reminding myself that staying where I was wouldn’t get me to where I wanted to go.
Over time, I started to win contracts. My first contract felt like proof that I had made the right decision. One contract turned into two, two turned into ten, and before I knew it, I had been awarded over $4.5 million in government contracts.
Why This Lesson Matters
Unlearning the mindset of “playing it safe” completely changed my life. I went from a $50,000-a-year teaching job to running a business that generates millions in contracts. But more importantly, I’ve created a life where I have financial freedom, the ability to scale, and the chance to help others achieve the same success.
This lesson isn’t just about leaving a stable job or chasing more money. It’s about recognizing when you’re limiting yourself because of fear. Sometimes, the biggest risks offer the biggest rewards.
I’m incredibly proud of the impact I made as a teacher, but I’m equally proud of the decision I made to step into something new and build a legacy that allows me to inspire others to do the same. The journey wasn’t easy, but it was worth every challenge, mistake, and risk along the way.
