We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jen Peeples-hampton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jen below.
Jen, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Learning how to do research and implementing creative ways to learn what your passionate about is the initial step to growing in your art. Sometimes, there is pressure in honing in in one thing, but that’s the beauty of creativity. When you explore, that is just as important than the destination. When I learned my craft, I did a lot of research in the fundamentals. Doing something well is practicing and exercising the fundamentals so well, you can’t get it wrong. If I had to speed up my learning– I would’ve looked into people who have been successful in the field I wanted to be in and study them a lot sooner. Not be afraid to reach out to leaders and creatives in special places. The skills most essential are communication as well as resiliency due to creating space to learn. Time can be seen as an obstacle sometimes, but embracing time as an accountability partner redirects energy and actually sparks imagination ten fold.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, it’s funny how I got into my current industry. I’d say that as a kid my mom held social gatherings and events at our home and I learned how to network with family friends. This taught me how to listen intentionally and ask good questions, not knowing this would spark my curiosity in research and writing. At a young age, I understood how important relationships were and how to maintain them with intention as well as consistency. Caring about people, and getting to know the human in them. Along with home life, school and academics further cultivated my passion for research and information gathering to put background and context clues together. Slowly, this help and currently helps me navigate life. This foundation is my recipe for success and recovery. Decision making is the result of learning from patterns and help with execution. I’m able to help my clients and customers feel at ease by showing them the current state of a potential issue while providing multiple courses of action that compliment their goals. When we have good choices, we make better choices. I think what sets me apart from others in the field of research is my passion for deeper understanding and an ability to connect what is sometimes unclear. I believe that everything is connected in some way, and this is a comfort that encourages me to explore multiple answers instead of just one.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support looks different for the spectrum of creative thought, expression, and connection. In my view, I think asking an artists preference in how they can be supported is the best approach. One size fits all doesn’t always accurately advocate for the variety. An ecosystem that is open to the response of, ” How can we best support you and your growth?”. Then when there are special circumstances of artists not knowing how they can be supported, the opportunity to help cultivate the artists through mentorship and exposure in the arts could be what they need.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I would say the mission that drives my creative journey would be the task of understanding what courage is everyday. With this, it is a guide to defining who I am presently and who I know God has created me to be. I’m fueled to give more to my inner and outer communities in the best way that supports them. I know what I do is not for only for myself, but for a future that would be heavily accommodated for a success that serves the majority in the creative arts and expression. It takes courage to me a life long learner. But it takes the fundamentals of everyday to execute and get results.
