We recently connected with Julia Foster and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
One of my favorite success stories is the time I worked with a healthcare specialist who was ready to take her business from a side hustle to her full-time career. She had an amazing service to offer, but to make the leap, she needed a full calendar and a way to consistently connect with the right audience on social media.
We started by diving deep into her target audience—getting crystal clear on who they were, what they needed, and how she could uniquely serve them. We identified their pain points, desires, and the kind of content that would genuinely resonate with her clients/potential clients. From there, we built a comprehensive social media strategy, ensuring her posts were not only engaging but also intentional in driving results.
After developing the strategy, we had a post-scheduling meeting to help her create and plan her content with ease. Within the first couple of weeks of implementing her new strategy, she was booked solid for a week and received six discovery call requests—all from organic social media!
But the impact didn’t stop there. Over the next few months, she focused on nurturing relationships in her community, something we made a core part of her strategy. This led to her being approached by a larger company with an opportunity to collaborate and even run a whole new branch of their business.
Seeing her success unfold was incredibly rewarding. It was a reminder of the power of a clear strategy, authentic connection, and consistent effort. She not only grew her business but also built stronger connections with her audience—and that’s what marketing is all about.
Julia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into marketing and entrepreneurship has been a wild ride. It all started back at Ohio University, where I majored in marketing and discovered how much I loved the creative side of business. After graduation, I worked as a community outreach specialist at Children Services, which taught me so much about connecting with people in meaningful ways. From there, I stepped into the corporate world as a marketing director, where I got to dive deep into strategy.
My real passion for entrepreneurship came when I decided to seize a very random opportunity, quit my full time job and open my own brick-and-mortar shop. That was such an exciting chapter—I fell in love with the process of building a business from the ground up. While I was running the store, I launched Twine Design, an online lifestyle boutique for moms, caregivers, and kids. And as I worked with local vendors for the shop, I somehow became the go-to girl for all things marketing. People were always asking for advice, and I loved helping them figure it all out.
When I was expecting my son, I decided to sell the store and focus solely on Twine. But I realized pretty quickly that I really missed working with other business owners. There’s just something so rewarding about helping someone else’s dream come to life. That’s when I decided to take the leap and turn Just Flourish Marketing into a full-time business.
Now, I get to work one-on-one with small business owners, helping them create clear, simple marketing strategies that actually work. I bring everything I’ve learned—corporate marketing, community building, and running my own businesses—to the table to help my clients feel confident and in control.
What I love most is seeing the impact this work has—helping someone fill their calendar, land a big opportunity, or finally feel like they get marketing. It’s the best feeling, and it’s why I do what I do.
I totally get how overwhelming marketing can feel when you’re juggling everything else in life. That’s why I focus on making it approachable and actionable. Helping small business owners grow their businesses while still having time for themselves is what I’m all about.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I think about having to pivot, my mind immediately goes to the early days of the COVID-19 shutdown. At the time, I was running a local food shop, but because we shared an open space with non-essential businesses, I had to shut our doors. It was such a scary and uncertain time, and to make things even more challenging, I didn’t have any kind of e-commerce system in place.
I knew I had to act quickly if I wanted my business to survive. So, I rolled up my sleeves and built an entire e-commerce platform, inventory management system, and delivery process from scratch. It wasn’t easy—there were so many things I had never done before—but I was too nervous to hire help because of the unpredictability of the pandemic. Instead, I taught myself everything, from managing online orders to organizing deliveries.
In fact, I even handled deliveries myself at first. I’d pack up orders, load my car, and personally drop them off to customers. It was exhausting but also deeply rewarding because I knew I was keeping my business alive and serving my community.
Looking back, that pivot was a turning point for my business. It taught me how to adapt, problem-solve, and step outside of my comfort zone. What started as a survival strategy ended up laying the foundation for huge growth and opened up new opportunities I never would have imagined.
It wasn’t the path I would’ve chosen, but it’s one I’m so grateful for. That experience reminded me of the power of resilience and how, even in the toughest situations, we can find ways to not just survive, but thrive
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media is all about connection, not just numbers. While Just Flourish Marketing is a newer account (shameless plug: follow us @justflourishmarketing 😉), I’ve had incredible success growing a loyal and engaged community with Twine Design. Between our Facebook page, Instagram account, and private Facebook group, we’ve built a supportive audience that truly feels like a community.
How did I do it? Honestly, it’s the same advice I’d give to anyone starting out:
Be 100% authentic. People can sense when you’re being real, and they connect with that. Share your story, your wins, your struggles—let your audience get to know the person behind the brand.
Know your target audience. You have to understand their wants, needs, and what resonates with them. Speak directly to them in your content, and make sure it feels like a conversation, not a sales pitch.
Have a posting strategy. This doesn’t have to be complicated, but consistency is key. Knowing what to post and when helps you show up regularly and stay top-of-mind with your audience.
Engage and offer value. Social media isn’t just about posting; it’s about building relationships. Respond to comments, DM your followers, and create content that truly helps or inspires them. The more you give, the more your audience will trust and support you.
The truth is, it takes time and effort to build a loyal audience, but if you focus on authenticity, connection, and consistency, it will pay off. Remember, it’s not about how many followers you have—it’s about how engaged and supportive those followers are.
