We recently connected with Dr. Purity Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Purity, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
GrowingHER LLC encourages a strong dedication to advancing God’s Kingdom in her life, her home, her community, and the entire world, we hope to inspire women of all backgrounds to grow in her knowledge of full purpose and love for God and others.
This company was birthed out of a true desire to fulfill my purpose in life. I was only able to find that in my love story with Christ Jesus. I learned that seeking purpose in only career or money, family, and drive wasn’t enough. I feel women give so much from empty cups, and we have to find multiple ways to replenish. I found that if we cover all the bases of replenishing whether its emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical, then we will grow her.

Dr. Purity, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a long time educator. I am currently employed by Texas Southern University as an Adjunct Instructor. I achieved both my Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Texas Southern University. My Philosophy of Doctrine was achieved from Leaders Esteem Christian Bible Univesity. I have served in many capacities within education ranging from tutoring to Chancellor of Affairs. I feel very passionate about educating our future young people.
I am the proud owner of GrowingHER LLC. The mission is to support, encourage, and foster growth for women from every background as they pursue a life centered on compassion, faith, and purpose. Under this umbrella services of Christian counseling and coaching is offered. We also actively have seminars including food, discussion panels, and networking with likeminded individuals.
I am also a three time published book author. I have written three devotionals to foster a healthy prayer life for women. They all can be purchased on Amazon.
I am an advocate for serving the community. I am a proud member of Top Ladies of Distinction Inc.
I serve as the Literacy Chair of my Lake Houston Chapter.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
While pursuing my bachelor’s degree, I got married and had my kids. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. In addition to taking 15 hours a semester as a workstudy student, I was also a full-time mother, wife, and student. I kept my GPA at 3.0 or higher. I would work on my homework through the night. I wanted to show my proud parents, my diligent spouse, and myself that I could finish what I started. In December 2014, I crossed the stage with pride, and I went on to enhance my education twice more. During this time in my personal life, I really had to demonstrate my toughness.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The penalty of constantly being busy and not taking breaks was a lesson that had to be unlearned.
I used to believe that I had to be always occupied, that if I didn’t get enough sleep, I would burn out. I discovered that getting enough sleep, unwinding, and refocusing is equally essential to performing at our best.
