Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniel Zinn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daniel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I started producing commercial classical music concerts. Notoriously unprofitable business. Most people thought I was crazy, and I was losing quite a bit of money for a long time, but through perseverance, probably more stubbornness than brains, I made to the other side and am now the head of an unlikely successful concert series
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Daniel Zinn, an Israeli conductor, impresario, and entrepreneur based in Brooklyn, New York. My journey began as a violinist in Jerusalem, eventually leading me to study with Maestro Aaron Rosand in New York. Over the years, I’ve expanded from performing to producing innovative musical experiences that reimagine classical music for modern audiences.
As Artistic Director of the Fort Greene Orchestra, I focus on blending symphonic music with immersive visuals, light design, and unique venues to create accessible and engaging performances. My projects include series like ‘Chopin and Champagne,’ which combine live music, intimate discussions, and receptions to connect people with the art in a fresh, personal way.
In addition to concerts, I run businesses like the Add Music Company, which curates live music for events, and the Brooklyn Violin Company, which provides violin leasing services. My work solves the challenges of making high-quality music accessible, whether through live performances or tailored services for clients.
I’m proud to have brought live music to over 10,000 people this season, creating experiences that leave lasting impressions. For anyone looking for something fresh, accessible, and memorable in classical music, my work is here to connect you to the magic of live performance.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I love music and freedom. I’ve found a way to do both by figuring out the business questions of classical music, rather than the typical donor world
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
