Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danielle Wicks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Danielle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
One day I was walking in HEB (our local grocery store) and I had tons of different cheeses, meats, nuts, fruits,etc.. in my cart. As I was looking through the cheese section, a guy comes up to me and says!! “What are you going to do with all that cheese and fruit?” I said well since you must know, lol I’m making a few charcuterie boards for a few family members since its Mothers Day, its going to be the perfect gift. He said oh my goodness. That is an awesome idea. Something different from the ordinary. How much do you sale them for? I said ummmmm I’ve never sold one a day in my life. The gentleman said to me. “well today, lets make your very first sale” I was shook!!! I couldn’t believe that a stranger walked up to me and wanted to purchase something that I made. So he said give me a price? I gave him the price and he purchased 10 charcuterie boards from me. From that moment on. I’ve been blessed to continue

Danielle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the cheese industry just doing charcuterie orders for my family and friends. I provide charcuterie services from mini charcuterie cups as big as charcuterie table that can feed up to 100 people. My problem solving is helping the customers pick out the perfect cheese. Rather its for a dinner pairing, or just a simple date night. I think what sets me apart from every is my Authenticity and also being a minority. I am mostly proud of where I am right now at this very moment. things takes time and patient, and I have come a long way from when I started in 2020 to today. Im constantly learning and growing and also excepting any challenge that comes my way. I want my potential clients to do that I truly do this with love and passion. Its a process. I sit and think “how can I make someone smile today with this presentation? I personally always taste everything before I put it on any of my clients boards/cups. I make sure it taste as good as it looks.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My resilience comes from everyday living. Its not easy when you are not getting a sale today or haven’t in a few. However, you make the most of it. Especially if you are passionate about your craft. I’ve had super uncomfortable conversations with clients and it only made me a stronger person.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I have truly learned in this journey is everyone is not rooting for you.
