We were lucky to catch up with Joscelyne Eddy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joscelyne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The naming of our business was influenced by our Daughter, Julia Jude.
When our daughter was an infant we noticed she would get dry patchy rashes all over her body. With a family history of severe eczema we immediately recognized these rashes as eczema. A friend gifted us a pair of bamboo pajamas, overnight we noticed our daughter’s rashes started to subside. We made the switch to bamboo entirely for our daughter; including sheets, blankets, and daywear. With her entire life revolving around the comfort of bamboo fabrics we decided to create our own business of bamboo pajamas, clothing, and accessories.
Considering our daughter was the main reason we fell in love with bamboo it was only fitting that we named our brand and business after her. Combining her first and middle name JuliaJude Bamboo was created.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Our business specializes in bamboo fabrics. We create pajamas, clothing, and accessories from children sizes newborn to 9/10 youth and adults XS to 3XL.
Bamboo has many benefits including: temperature regulation, anti microbial properties, naturally soft, and its sweat wicking.
Our brand has unique patterns that will not be found with any other brand. I design a majority of our prints, otherwise we hire small artists to also hand draw our patters!
We have been in business for two years and have more than sixty reviews all with five star ratings! We are proud of the products we produce and service we provide to our customers!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Starting our business was a lot of financial planning. I knew I didn’t want to take out a bank loan, so my husband and I used our personal savings to kick start our business. We put aside 17 grand into trial runs from multiple manufacturers, equipment for shipping our products, website development, original artwork for our designs, and mostly our product.
All of our inventory was an upfront cost. We wanted our products to be ready to ship within 5 days of our customers online orders. To this day we primarily offer items that are in stock and arrive within a week of the order being placed.
We started our business with five print deigns; totaling over 2000 items arriving to our doorstep. Our first inventory delivery was overwhelming to see in person. As soon as it arrived we started getting to work on selling our products and promoting our business.
Over the last two years we have slowly been paying ourselves back. It’s a long and slow process to pay back what we owe ourselves and continue to make the business run day to day, but I’m forever grateful we were able to start this adventure on our own dime.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When we started our business we only had friends and family apart of our social media. Two years later we have over 5,100 members!
I have worked day after day to post about our brand online, utilize paid promotion through facebook and instagram ads, and make content to share and expand my brand.
An important idea to remember as a business owner is that you have to keep posting and posting and posting to have your product seen. On average it takes someone seven times to see your product before they look at your website and 12 times before they buy. It will take many hours of you free time, but if you’re truly dedicated it will pay off!
