We recently connected with Bruce Nicholson and have shared our conversation below.
Bruce, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe success is a variation of completing small tasks consistently. Alot of times we can get caught in the tides of comparison, looking at what others are doing and not paying attention to how far we’ve come. Celebrating the big wins in business is great but true success comes from the consistent ability to hit your target/goal over and over again regardless how big or small they may seem.

Bruce, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started out working with the Union here in Phoenix where I learned and expanded my understanding of the trades. After working in the commercial industry for 8 years I felt that it was time to personalize my knowledge of production and make it available to residents throughout the valley. For me it was a better experience being able to assist with providing solutions to homeowners’ problems. Whether it is refinishing a home that needs updates for a better living environment or assisting with preparing a home that is on the market for sale the process is more rewarding when the owner’s visions are met.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Side jobs were always away for me and my crew to make a little extra money, especially when you have children, so we would come across homeowners that were under the gestapo of the HOA. They were being fined for their houses not being painted so we would assist them with repainting their homes in order for the HOA to stop fining them. Alot of times there was more work that the owner needed or would like done so that gave the incentive to start our company. Its really about providing a service that solves problems and when properties are under duress being able to provide assistance.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I have fortunately had the pleasure of working with my core team on projects prior to starting a business so we understand each others work ethic and skill/trade. I trust that what ever task that is assigned to them will get done and be done with a level of quality insured but remaining open to each others constructive criticism, in areas that could possibly be done better, is a big part of it. Trust is a big boost in morale and knowing that if there is something that needs to be improved we can speak our truth with no or very little negative feed back.
