Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maria Roberts. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maria, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I always knew I wanted to be a creative artist, even as a child. I started dancing when I was 7, then explored other activities, but by the time I was 10, I fell in love with singing. A friend of mine mentioned she was attending a vocal studio, so I asked to go with her. That’s when I started taking vocal classes.
I was always independent and didn’t wait for my parents to sign me up. After my first class, I went to my mom and told her, ‘This is what I want to do.’ Two years later, I auditioned for a girls’ group, got in, and that’s how my artistic career began.

Maria, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who may not be familiar with me, I’m a performer, actor, event planner, and creative artist with a passion for storytelling and bringing people together through meaningful experiences. My journey began as a child—first with dance at the age of 7, then exploring singing at 10, which eventually led to my artistic career as a member of a girls’ group. Over time, I expanded my artistic pursuits to include acting and filmmaking, which gave me a deeper understanding of creative expression and storytelling.
My filmmaking background allows me to approach projects with a unique perspective, blending my performance skills with an eye for visual storytelling. Acting has also been an essential part of my journey, providing me with opportunities to immerse myself in different characters and connect with audiences on an emotional level.
Currently, I provide a range of creative services, including performing, acting, event planning, and collaborating with other talented professionals to deliver unforgettable experiences. I also work with organizations like NYU Journalism to produce high-quality events while pursuing my dream of growing my own entertainment company.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people on a personal level, whether it’s through a performance, a beautifully planned event, or a collaboration with other creatives. My filmmaking and acting experience have given me a well-rounded perspective on storytelling, enabling me to craft experiences that are both visually stunning and emotionally impactful.
I’m most proud of the diverse path my career has taken and the resilience it’s required to adapt and grow. From my early beginnings to my current work, every challenge has been a stepping stone, and I strive to inspire others by showing that it’s possible to follow your passions while continuously evolving.
For potential clients and fans, I’d want them to know that I’m deeply committed to every project I take on, whether it’s on stage, behind the camera, or organizing an event. My work is about more than just creativity—it’s about making connections, building trust, and delivering excellence every time.
If you’re looking for someone who brings passion, versatility, and a personal touch to every project, I’d love to collaborate with you!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media has been all about authenticity, creativity, and connection. I started by sharing snippets of my work—performances, events, and behind-the-scenes moments from acting and filmmaking. I focused on telling stories and engaging with my followers in a meaningful way.
For those just starting out, my advice is to stay consistent, share your journey honestly, and focus on quality over quantity. Engage actively with your audience, collaborate with others in your niche, and be patient—building a presence takes time. Most importantly, stay authentic and let your passion shine. People are drawn to real stories and genuine connections.
Be yourself!

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I often think about how much easier it would have been if social media existed when I was a teenager. As an immigrant, I know firsthand how important it is to find your community, and social media has been life-changing in that regard—giving everyone a chance to find their place and connect with others who share their passions.
As for resources I wish I’d known about earlier, mentorship programs and networking events specifically for creatives would have been invaluable. Having access to guidance from experienced professionals or even platforms to collaborate with other artists could have saved so much trial and error. Also, knowing about free or affordable training opportunities and grants for emerging artists would have helped me build my skills and projects faster. It’s amazing how much information is out there now, but finding the right resources early on can truly make a difference.
