Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julivia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Julivia , appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
After my near death experience, on January 16 2017 life presented me with two choices. Remain the same or evolve. The best way to explain this part of my life would be there was truly only one option, and that would be to evolve. The old Julivia was gone when that experience occurred. Did I try to revive her? Why, of course. I think anyone with human tendencies would have chosen the path of remaining the same however I was given something spiritually to help me sustain. I went through ptsd and depression for 8 months. Leading up to my suicide attempt that by the grace of God I survived on October 30, 2017. I felt no connection or needs to live my own life when I was caught by surprised that God wanted a relationship with me. My near death experience made me face forward. I can say that proudly after overcoming my mental health issues because I had the wrong perspective the entire time. Honestly, it was my relationship with the most high has gotten me through. Once I found an identity in Christ I found the meaning of life. Which is to serve God and others. We are called to serve. My purpose stems from facing life challenges head on my suicide attempt that happened 9 months after my tragedy. Unexpected circumstances led to purpose. So I was given a second chance, not by mistake but by the grace of Jesus Christ. The light that I’ve managed to develop inside that illuminates every room I’m in was made through and with my relationship with Jesus Christ. My book was a risk taking experience, I knew I was a writer but I had no clue I was writing a book. I just wanted to share what the Lord had done for me and well let’s just say… it’s still the best risk I’ve taken in my entire life. Becoming an author changed the trajectory of my career. I became an inspiration. I could’ve never imagined I’d be who I am today if God did not save me not once but twice. Sharing my survival story helped me cope, however the best has yet to come, my story has just begun. Glory be unto God.
Julivia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a mental health advocate I take full responsibility in helping others cope with their life hardships and providing multiple resources and perspectives on how to manage. As a published author Im happy to use my god given gift of writing to speak life into others who struggle with self acceptance , self guilt and identity crisis. Self acceptance, self guilt and I didn’t be crisis from imposter syndrome, which truly is a bridge worth crossing over. I discovered the best and greatest version of myself once I chose a path of evolution. Hitting rock bottom is not such a bad thing at all. It turns out the small things aren’t so small at all, and that every hardship will require a different level of confidence from you.. My ultimate goal is to help others
become the greatest version of themselves and heal. Becoming an author also helped me skilled as a speaker and so I now attend events expose, and interventions that revolve around mental health to speak to others about healing and self evolution .. I figured I continue to inspire others and what a better way to do that that’s a verbally test to them where I came from versus where I am now today . And doing that I was able to meet people who are on the same path as me and now I am working closely with a non profit called the What I Wish I Knew Foundation and what we specialize in would be to help the youth by providing resources and life skills to help them succeed through life and in business. We host campaigns, school give backs, conflict resolution tours each and every year we host a large expo called “The Power of community”. Our mission is to help children soar above what we were able to and have done them this act of service in hopes to inspire them to help others as well.
We all come from different places and different backgrounds however we all share one thing in common which is the lack of. So as a believer of Jesus Christ my main concern is to help people understand that we all have gifts that give us purpose and with God all things are possible. I became a philanthropist by helping serve the community and giving back to those who are in need. I love what I do because people get inspired to become more selfless. It’s truly not about me, I’m only a vessel for God and I take this seriously as people are important and they too matter. I provide on my website links to all my interviews and all my work with the community if anyone wishes to help my organization closer to our goal.
As an Entrepreneur I can honestly say this was the birth of a new brand for me. I became a self taught makeup artist. Now a makeup artist who specializes in bridal artistry. Not only do I play an important role but I also do what I can to help the brides day go by without having any problems. How I do that is by extending further services and allowing myself to be reliable and assessable from the starting point of inquiry from March 2018 now going on six years. Becoming an artist helped me developed confidence in approaching my gifts and skill sets. The best teacher is practice. That I can say. To inquire about my services you can email me on my website.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission that drives my creativity and goal would be the youth. I’ve always wanted to help others but I found a passion in helping the next generation. Children are the future. And would I’ve realized this without us hoping to guide and provide our real experiences they will develop a false reality of what it needs to be resilient. Being vulnerable is a superpower. And by the grace of God I was able to testify about my mental health struggles, and it inspired others to seek guidance in health. With suicide rates being at an all-time high, I think that this is one step to help people realize that they do matter and their mental health is a real issue.. it’s not easy to discuss traumatic experiences but if that means that it’ll help someone get through our hardship then I’m all for it. Children are important and their minds are fragile so I’m honored to be a position to be close alongside them to help guide and move their futures.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn would be to consider what others are going through outside of my struggles and personal experiences. This is a tough topic because I know it’s challenging to help others while you’re in the mist of testing trial. However I realize there there is always someone going through a worse situation than you. If you could just take yourself out of your own situations even if it’s for a minute, one day or one week, you’ll find yourself helping others the same way you would help Yourself. Becoming who I needed when I was younger truly blessed my life and help me to accomplish my goals faster than I would’ve thought. Now that’s a way to heal while helping others heal.
I remember discovering a woman who was paralyzed and she was inspiring other survivors. The fact is that her paralysis didn’t stop her from “becoming the greatest version of herself”. That inspired me to be bold even in my fears and I’m forever grateful for her story as it did help me to reflect on my own and stand tall with my past flaws and imperfections that I now see as tributes to my future as well as my purpose in life.
