We recently connected with Michael Ragsdale and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project we’ve worked on is our latest album “Between myth and madness.” We put this band together as a way for us to get some emotions out and just siphon our creative processes into something useful, and this album represents that perfectly. It took us about 5 months to produce, with multiple days in the studio at a time. The band itself is a passion project and means a lot to all of us, but this album has pushed us to a different level, as musicians and people, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are a heavy metal band called ThunderGun, coming to you from Memphis Tennessee. We are a four piece band consisting of Michael Ragsdale, Griffin Taylor, Jeff Burch, and Ella McCalister. We formed back in fall of 2023 at our place of work, School of Rock, where 3/4s of us teach music. We as people reflect ourselves in our music, with thrashing riffs and beautiful melodies that you can’t get anywhere else. We are most proud of our newly released album Between Myth and Madness and are looking to expand our fan base to let the world know who we are.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our biggest goal is to make music that everyone can enjoy. While we categorize ourselves in metal, we want people of all genres to be able to listen to our stuff and enjoy it. We really just want to see where thundergun can take us and hope it brings us to our rockstar dreams.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
We believe that local music is greatly under appreciated in some places. We see bands come and go in Memphis because it’s hard for people to draw a local crowd sometimes. One of the most important things society can do is simply go to local shows and support local music. Find them on Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and just give em a listen. Each artist has a story to tell and silencing their story is silencing their voice, so please, support local music!
