Alright, Tiffani thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
The journey of launching STEM Crew Magazine began with a vision that had been brewing within me for years. As a STEM consultant and advocate, I often saw the potential in young minds and the necessity to inspire them to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This inspiration was the seed for my idea: a magazine that would celebrate and elevate STEM trailblazers, showcasing their stories and contributions while providing resources for young learners.
The day after I solidified my idea, I started mapping out the structure of the magazine. I knew I needed guidance, so I enrolled in the “How to Start a Digital Magazine” training program by founders Crystal Jordan and Jasmine Hawkins of Becoming Her Magazine. Their expertise was invaluable, providing me with the foundational knowledge I needed to navigate the complexities of digital publishing. I learned about audience engagement, content creation, and the technical aspects of magazine production.
As I delved deeper into the planning phase, my focus shifted to developing content that would resonate with our audience. I reached out to STEM trailblazers—industry leaders, educators, and innovators—inviting them to contribute their stories and insights. This was an invigorating process; connecting with individuals who shared my passion for STEM and who were eager to inspire the next generation was truly motivating. Over the course of the first year, I was fortunate to gather nearly 100 STEM trailblazers, along with 30+ engaging STEM activities and 17 recurring contributing writers.
During the first few months, I faced challenges that tested my resolve. From figuring out the logistics of digital publishing to learning how to market the magazine effectively, there was a steep learning curve. I spent hours researching best practices and reaching out to mentors who could offer advice. I also began building a presence on social media, fostering a community of parents, educators, and STEM enthusiasts who would support our mission.
By the time we launched our first issue, I was filled with a mix of excitement and apprehension. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and I knew we were onto something special. Each quarterly issue became an opportunity to highlight the brilliance of STEM minds, share valuable resources, and engage with our readers.
Reflecting on our journey after one year, I was proud to see how far STEM Crew Magazine had come. With five successful issues published, a growing community, and a wealth of resources for our readers, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment. Our magazine became a beacon for those looking to ignite curiosity and inspire innovation in young learners.
In essence, the journey from idea to execution was a blend of passion, perseverance, and collaboration. It was about building connections, overcoming obstacles, and staying true to the mission of empowering the STEM leaders of tomorrow. I’m passionate about advocating for STEM education while also being a seasoned professional in the engineering field. My journey into this industry began with a deep curiosity about how things work. Growing up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, I was always fascinated by the mechanics behind everyday objects and the science that explains them. This interest led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, followed by a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. As well as, a PhD student in the Leadership Studies program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, with over 20 years of experience, I’ve come to realize the critical importance of representation in STEM fields. Many young people, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, often lack access to resources and role models that can inspire them to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This realization fueled my work as a STEM consultant, where I focus on mentoring and empowering the next generation of STEM leaders.
In addition to my consulting work, I founded STEM Crew Magazine, a free digital publication dedicated to celebrating STEM trailblazers and providing valuable resources for parents, educators, and STEM enthusiasts. Each issue features inspiring stories from pioneers in the field, exciting STEM activities, scholarship opportunities, and insights into emerging technologies. My goal with the magazine is to bridge the gap between expertise and inspiration, making STEM accessible and engaging for young learners.
What sets me apart from others in my field is my multifaceted approach to promoting STEM education. I don’t just work as an engineer; I’m also an author, speaker, and mentor. I’ve written several books, including the internationally best-selling “What Can I Be? STEM Careers from A to Z” and the “STEM Crew Kids Adventures” series, which aim to introduce children to various STEM careers in a fun and engaging way. Additionally, I host the Read It Right Radio Show and the Engineering Management Institute’s Women in Engineering Podcast, where I highlight the achievements of women in STEM and share valuable insights into navigating these fields.
I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built through STEM Crew Magazine over the past year. With five published issues, nearly 100 featured STEM trailblazers, and a dedicated team of contributing writers, we’re making strides in inspiring young minds and providing them with the tools they need to succeed in STEM. 1. Expertise and Experience: As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, with over 20 years of experience, I have developed a solid foundation of knowledge and skills in my field. This expertise has allowed me to speak confidently on various STEM topics, whether through writing, speaking engagements, or mentoring.

By collaborating with others on projects or initiatives, I’ve been able to tap into their networks, which has helped broaden my visibility and establish credibility.
