Kara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

Born in North Carolina and later moving to South Carolina at the age of 10, I spent much of my formative years in the Carolinas. In June 2024, I made a significant move to Washington. My journey took a delightful turn when I met my boyfriend through VRChat. Together, we decided to expand our family with a furry friend, which led to the adoption of Opal, our adorable corgi. What began as a hobby of posting cute pictures of Opal on Instagram blossomed into a growing community, surpassing 10,000 followers. Recently, we’ve expanded our family further by welcoming Willow Wisp The Fluffy Corgi, bringing even more joy and fluffy fun into our lives. This journey has been a beautiful blend of love for pets and the unexpected reach of social media, turning a simple passion into a shared joy with thousands.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning of my journey, I was in a challenging marriage where I faced physical, mental, and verbal abuse on a daily basis. Desperate for an escape, I turned to the internet and found refuge among friends on VRChat. It was a transformative experience, as I felt free for the first time in my life. Through this supportive online community, I gained the strength to leave my abusive marriage and pursue a divorce. This pivotal decision allowed me to reclaim my life.

Amidst this newfound freedom, I met my loving boyfriend on VRChat, which marked the start of a positive and hopeful new chapter. Together, we have embarked on a journey filled with love and companionship. Despite the struggles along the way, these experiences have ultimately led me to a happier and more fulfilling life.

I am actively engaged in building a vibrant online community centered around my love for corgis, particularly through the journey with my dogs, Opal and Willow Wisp. My work primarily involves creating engaging and heartwarming content on social media platforms, sharing the daily adventures, adorable moments, and unique personalities of my corgis. This content resonates with a growing audience, currently over 10,000 followers on Instagram, who are drawn to the genuine joy and positivity we share.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?

I view risk-taking as an integral part of personal growth and transformation. While taking risks can be daunting, it often leads to new opportunities and positive changes. In my life, one of the most significant risks was leaving a toxic marriage. It was a decision fraught with uncertainty, but ultimately essential for my well-being and happiness. This bold step allowed me to escape an abusive situation and start anew, even though it involved leaving behind familiar aspects of my life.

Another significant risk was embracing the virtual world of VRChat to find solace and companionship. While some might see this as unconventional, it led me to meet my supportive and loving boyfriend. This decision opened the door to a fulfilling relationship and a brighter future.

My approach to risk is to weigh the potential benefits against the challenges, considering how the outcome aligns with my values and long-term goals. I believe in trusting my instincts and embracing change when it promises a path toward growth and happiness. Taking these calculated risks has taught me to be resilient and adaptable, encouraging me to continue pursuing paths that resonate with my personal and professional aspirations. While I may not consider myself a natural risk-taker, these experiences have shown me the transformative power of stepping out of my comfort zone.
