Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Raine
Hi Miranda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always loved music. As a child, I used to pretend I was a singer and perform for all of my toys. The only way I would fall asleep is an infant was to be put next to a speaker. As I got older, I started joining things like choir. It wasn’t until my early twenties when I started singing by myself in front of audiences. It all started with a trip to karaoke. A classmate of mine wanted to go to karaoke and was determined to drag me along. I had no intention of singing. I had terrible stage fright and was not comfortable getting up to sing by myself in front of an audience. However, between my classmate and the host of the karaoke show, I got coerced into singing. They shoved the microphone in my face and put me on the spot. I sang from my seat. I remember that the song I had chosen was Respect by Aretha franklin. Everyone was pleasantly surprised by my ability to sing. From then on, my classmates continued to take me out to karaoke. I must have sang from my seat at least four times before they wouldn’t let me sing from my seat anymore. In a way, this really helped me to get over my stage fright. Fast forward to many years later, I became a karaoke host. One day, I came across a music producer based out of Nashville who was looking for a soprano vocalist to do a cover of a song. I ended up speaking to him about it and collaborating with him on this cover. The rest is history as they say. He produced my first few songs that I had written. This was back in 2019. That was the first official release of my professional career. I ended up changing producers to work with someone in my own home state. I have gone on to win multiple Music Awards and continue to write my own music. We are currently working on my next album and I am excited for its finish.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think the music industry is a smooth Road for anybody. Is very difficult to balance writing music, Getting It produced in the studio, doing music videos and professional photoshoots, marketing, advertising, promotion, and doing shows. Since most Independent Artists are not wealthy, it can be quite expensive and we are often left doing all of the work ourselves. With streaming platforms being what they are, artists are not getting paid for their work. If you pair that with the fact that I’m autistic, you can imagine how much more stressful and difficult that can be. I get overwhelmed easily and certainly don’t promote myself as much as I should. Social media is one of those interesting aspects of promotion that I have a difficult time with.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer-songwriter. I write all My Own lyrics. I am proud of the fact that everything I do is original. There are a lot of great songs out there that make good cover songs, but I find that I have more difficulty feeling like those are my own. But I think that sticking to all original music helps me to stand apart I am also known for being an advocate for autistic adults. There are a lot of programs available for children, but not really any for autistic adults and we still need levels of help. I try to use my music platform as a way to bring light to this topic and start important discussions surrounding this. I am often told that I’m an inspiration and that I am brave for sharing my own story with the world. I don’t know that I look at it as bravery, but I certainly think that giving a voice to the autistic community is important.
