Today we’d like to introduce you to Francis Holmes
Hi Francis , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Chronologically speaking, a large part of my teens and all of my 20s were spent in quite unusual way, through a bazar set of circumstances, from age 16 until 30 I was essentially a slave in every sense of the word, physically and to a large degree mentally enslaved.
my first real experiences of free adult life started at 30 years old,
But briefly, before this long and hard part of my life I had wanted to be what I thought was an entrepreneur with an interest in investing although I didn’t quite understand what these things were at the time
as an early teen I briefly had a small business doing gardening and landscape design, and then my life took a turn for a very long time until I reached 30 years old.
I finally had enough and with the help of family, I managed to leave where I was and fly to London,
I immediately began life there as a bricklayer and within two months registered a company and rekindled my entrepreneurial journey.
2-3 years and several companies later i found myself in East Africa with another company I founded as a defense contractor and as a newly married family man with my wife expecting our first child.
My wife and I had met a few years earlier at a restaurant I had invested in during my few short years in London as a building contractor.
My life changed again as we began to give thought to, and design the lifestyle that we would like for raising our kids, it didn’t include defense contracting…..
We regrouped in Kenya and then back in London for about two years back at one of my older companies before moving to Belize
Over the next few years we worked hard at establishing our organic farm and health and wellness businesses in Belize and that more or less brings us up to where we are now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well…..no, life is often not a smooth road, in fact I’m not sure if I’ve experienced anything remotely smooth at all. The journey has however been well worth it, albeit some of the lessons simply to expensive (like 14-15 years as a slave)
In life, things will always go wrong, that’s not what matters, what matters is what you do when they go wrong.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
