Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Enriquez
Hi Maya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always dreamed of becoming a doctor. Since the age of 12, it was all I could think about. I spent my free time reading, watching, and learning everything I could about becoming an Obstetrician-Gynecologist. My future was carefully mapped out.
Everything seemed to be on track during my first year of college. I excelled academically, earned great grades, and even received letters of recommendation for a study-abroad program in London, England. It was an incredible experience!
But during my second year, things took a turn. I went from being a top student to struggling, failing my classes, and feeling completely discouraged. Despite hours of studying—alone and with classmates—I couldn’t grasp the math and science concepts well enough to succeed.
My life became a monotonous cycle: wake up, go to work, attend classes, study, complete homework, and manage household chores. I was on autopilot, slowly losing faith in myself.
Then, one day, while scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon a video that changed my life. It was a young Latina home baker making dozens of tres leches cakes, and I was mesmerized. Suddenly, I thought, “I could do that!”
That moment sparked a transformation.
Hi, my name is Maya Enriquez, and I’m the proud owner of Muy Bueno Bakery, located in Riverside, CA. We specialize in crafting Tres Leches Cakes in a variety of flavors, bringing joy to every celebration. Whether it’s a birthday, wedding, or a simple family gathering, our cakes are made to turn ordinary moments into unforgettable memories.
Indulge in something truly muy bueno!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the greatest lessons life has taught me is this: when something is worth fighting for, challenges and struggles become proof that you’re on the right path.
Like any business, I’ve faced my share of struggles. I’ve lost hundreds of dollars in products, baked way too many cakes only to sell a few, and even been scammed at events, losing more money. But the hardest challenge I’ve faced wasn’t external—it was myself.
Overcoming my mental limitations—believing in my ability, wondering if I was worthy, and doubting my business—was the toughest battle. But none of those doubts were true.
I have an amazing, delicious product. I’ve seen the joy on people’s faces when they tell me they usually hate Tres Leches cake but love mine. Watching amazing customers come back again and again, buying cakes by the bagful, fills me with so much gratitude.
To everyone who continues to support Muy Bueno Bakery: thank you. Your belief in me and my business helps me see that this journey is worth it. One day, Muy Bueno Bakery won’t just be a small business—it’ll be a thriving success, just like Carlo’s Bakery!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Muy Bueno Bakery, I pour my heart into creating the most delicious baked goods ever, especially our Tres Leches cakes. They’re kind of our thing! We have super fun flavors like Caramel Pecan, Mango, Chocolate Oreo, Matcha, and so many more. What makes them special? People always say, “I don’t even like Tres Leches, but yours is amazing!” That seriously makes my day every time.
What I’m most proud of is seeing how much joy our cakes bring to people. Watching customers come back again and again (sometimes literally buying cakes by the bagful!) is the best feeling ever.
I think what sets us apart is how much love we put into everything we make. It’s not just about baking; it’s about creating something that feels special. I want every bite to be an experience that makes people smile—and maybe crave just one more slice.
At the end of the day, I’m just a 22-year-old trying to grow this small bakery into something big. One day, I hope Muy Bueno Bakery will be as iconic as Carlo’s Bakery. For now, I’m grateful for every single customer who believes in me and my little dream. 💖
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without some amazing people who’ve had my back along the way. First off, my family has been EVERYTHING—they’ve helped me brainstorm ideas, deliver cakes, and step in whenever things get overwhelming. Whether it’s helping me pack orders, running errands, or just being there for moral support, they’ve been my rock through it all.
A huge shoutout to my tia, Marcela Arrieta, who’s been such a big influence in teaching me how to run a business. She owns so many businesses, and her advice has been such a game-changer for me.
I also have to thank my family friends from Pranic Healing, who have been my taste testers! They’ve been so supportive, helping me tweak recipes and giving me that extra boost of confidence.
And of course, I’m so thankful for all my amazing customers. Whether they’ve bought a cake, shared a post, or told a friend about us, every little bit of support has helped Muy Bueno grow.
This journey hasn’t been all smooth sailing—I’ve definitely faced some challenges. But every bump in the road has taught me something new and helped me keep going.
I’m just so grateful for everyone who’s believed in me and this bakery dream of mine. I couldn’t have made it this far without them!
