Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric Meyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eric, appreciate you joining us today. Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
The kindest things that people have done for me is to take the time to allow me to spend time in their world and give me the opportunity to learn from them. People like Glenn Hefner, Ken Avant, Derek Barghaer, Bob DeAvila and many others have supported me even when everything was an idea or in the works of becoming reality. To the people that stood in my corner, and there are a lot of them, I owe them a great deal of thanks for believing in me when other people thought I was crazy.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a kid I have always been fascinated with the knobs of a mixing console and I also wanted to be a rock star. Due to the physical location of where I lived growing up both of those options were not easily accessible to me. This didn’t deter me from wanting to do both things. However, the one thing I never expected to do was to physically build my business from the ground up. The truth is that I got everything that I ever asked for in my life, however, it didn’t happen on my timeline it happened 40 years later. As we moved forward we added a lot of services to our facility including: 5.1 mixing, video, recording, education and lessons, mixing, and mastering. As for things that set us apart, I would say that our loyalty to those who trust us with their work is something we take a great deal of pride in. We like to work hand in hand with our clients to help minimize and pitfalls and navigate obstacles that may arise. Of all the things we’ve done the one thing we are proud of is that we are not a cookie cutter facility and we want to chase things that will make us stand out. This path may be the less travelled however, it is the most fun and the most adventurous path to be on.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was how to stop negotiating against myself. I frequently found myself having a question to ask and without ever asking the question I would answer the question in my own head. This would prevent me from ever asking the question. This lesson taught me how to “blank slate” and simply ask questions that otherwise would remain unasked. For those who don’t know what “blank slating” is, it is simply going in to every situation looking to see what you are going to learn and not assuming things.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There are numerous stories I could share abut resilience however that would be a very long answer. To me, bringing this building up from ground zero and to completion over an 8 year period would demonstrate the resilience needed. This is one of those situations where you live with the project and your brain never disengages from the thoughts of what your next step is or the next item on your punch list. In hindsight, this project was quite daunting and I never knew what I had got myself in to however I did manage to push forward. In short, the only way out was through. Once I came through the other side, or completion of the facility, I am so much better off than when I started the project. In hindsight, all of this hard work was worth it.
